It’s really uncool how much I loved reading this…

And I guess if Fleabag says so, then you really should go see Sian Clifford’s “tour de force” performance in LADY, now playing in NYC, LA & expanding in theatres across the US this weekend 👒🫥🐦‍⬛ #sianclifford #phoebewallerbridge #LADYthemovie

⚠️ Post Screening Update⚠️

A riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

I began Lady wholly amused by the wonderfully wacky world of her Ladyship. I was not expecting the familiar lump in my throat.

Sian Clifford’s performance is a tour de force of quirky, off-kilter absurdity and moments of absolute despair. The emotion comes in waves, wrapped and bookended by absurd moments that leave you unsuspecting until the tug on your heart is suddenly real and palpable.

The film explores individuality, creativity, and the misperception of the very things that make each of us special and worth sharing. The longing to be seen, heard, and recognized. The loneliness of having a voice but being unable to make it reach anyone.

Grief moves through the film both literally and metaphorically: the loss of a loved one, the loss of oneself. Entrapment, isolation, and the struggle to remember your own worth.

And then, the possibility of finding yourself again. The bravery of going on alone.

I wish I’d been able to stay for the Q&A with the writer-director. There was so much I wanted to ask.

What a treat this film was. So wonderfully strange, so unexpectedly moving. Loved it! 🩷
