Last year my friend and guide @samwe312 was somehow able to push me to pass 200 climbers before sunrise to be able to be the first to summit Mt.Kilimanjaro. I’m making this video for him and his team of porters who are some of the hardest working people that I’ve ever met ⛰️ Hit him up.

Special shoutout to @daniel.deuschle for this song as I listened to it on repeat to motivate me up that mountain. It’s called Enduring Hope

Day 6 for Kilimanjaro really started on day 5. I woke up a little before midnight, started getting ready, and we began the trek a few minutes after 1 am.

Before I had even gotten out of the sleeping bag, my heart rate was already over 130 BPM, and I was feeling the same fever I'd had every morning when I got up.

45 minutes in I felt like I could quit. I had no clue how long we'd be going, and it was ultimately 6 hours, straight up, before we would reach Uhuru Peak. It was pitch black, so we had to use head lamps to navigate the loose dirt and rocks

We were at -20°, so our camelbacks froze fairly early on. We planned for it, and had small, 2 L water bottles, flipped upside down and wrapped in wool socks (water freezes top down, so flipping it upside down allows you to still drink it)

At roughly 6:45 am we hit the summit and got to enjoy sunrise from the roof of Africa. At this point, my kidneys were killing me and I was toast from the altitude. But jobs not done...

We then had to hike back down. It was 3 hours back down to camp, where we took a short nap, and then had to pack up and get back to hiking. We had another 5 hours down the mountain.

Getting up from the nap, I felt like I couldn't take another step. I could feel the effects of dehydration, but we didn't have a choice. It's moments like that in which you appreciate how much your body can endure

David Goggins talks about how when you feel like you're ready to quit, you're only 40% to your limit. I don't know the exact math, but I was ready to quit early on that day 😂

I say the hard parts, but climbing Kilimanjaro was one of the most incredible and rewarding feats of my life, and I'm so thankful for the opportunity

Sorry it took me like 8 months to post all of the updates 😂

It's been 5 months since my first Kili update, so I know yall are probably worried that I got stuck on the mountain.

Days 3, 4, and 5 were probably the best days. Some pretty solid distance days, we got up to a little over 15k ft in elevation on day 3 to reach the Lava Tower, and then came back down to rest. Michael and I felt great (Michael was the other gentleman in my group. He and I spent a ton of time talking over the course of a week, and it was fun learning each others cultures).

Day 4 we got to encounter the "kiss of death." Roughly 400 ft drop behind us, and it definitely felt intense. 2 people had fallen off of it the month before, with one passing and the other still being in critical condition. The climbing/ bouldering portion was one of my favorite pieces of the whole trek

Day 5 was pretty chill. Sam, our head guide, let us sleep in since we were flying passed people on the trail. Got a late start, and still beat most groups to camp. Got plenty of rest, and got ready for an early summit attempt on Day 6

I'll try not to wait 5 months for the final installment (Days 6, 7, and then a Safari)

For years I've had a goal of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. This quote I came across a few months ago rocked me, and got me thinking...

"Most people tiptoe through life to arrive safely at death."

Decided to book some trips I'd been wanting to go on, and the first was conquering the mountain.

Kili is known as one of the 7 peaks: one of the tallest peaks on a continent. It's the tallest mountain in Africa, and known as the Roof of Africa.

The trip started by flying into Moshi, Tanzania. Day 0 had a briefing with my guide, Sam, and then the next morning (Day 1) we started out at the Lemosho gate. This was down in the rain forest. We got to see tons of monkeys on the way up, then camped in the jungle.

By day 2, we crossed above the timber line, and at the end of day 2, we made it up to 12,762 ft of the 19,341ft to the summit to camp at Shira 2 Camp

Days 3, 4, 5 coming next
