![TRACE FOSSIL
.
.
.
.
Random trails crossing ancient ripples
A snapshot of life from the depths of deep time.
Ours, yet to be preserved, maybe never.
Will that story, a blink in the eye of time, be found interred in abyssal sediments?
Materials and elements amassed through our excess and wastefulness.
Possibly.
Yet all but a few chemical signatures may survive natures efficient eraser; geological dynamism.
What, if anything, might be found?
A mass extinction’s marker horizon?
Or footprints on a lunar landscape?

Will fragments and traces of our existence on Earth be found hundreds of millions of years from now?
Will any of the vestiges of our civilizations become part of the fossil record, or will a chemical signature be all that remains?

Our images and words will have long vanished, but many believe our presence will be defined by the mass-produced metal and plastic in the ubiquitous waste dumps forming an integral part of our landscapes and lives. The industrial fallout of our societal and economical demands, CO2, airborne particles and toxic chemicals, coat the land, and are washed into rivers, lakes and the oceans. Will the micro-plastics found in sediments, in some of the deepest parts of the oceans, survive millions of years of geological processes?

The Paleozoic ichnofossils in the image provide evidence of how ancient creatures lived. If any traces of our existence somehow survive, what will future ichnologists conclude about how we lived?
