🌿 GRASS-FED MEAT BOXES — FROM THE HIGH PASTURES OF CARRAUNTOOHIL

Raised slowly and naturally, our Swaledale and Herdwick sheep roam and graze on the high pastures of Carrauntoohil, producing exceptional-quality grass-fed hogget.

🥩 Rich, flavoursome and naturally tender.

Our hogget is lean, with just the right amount of fat, delivering a deeper, more developed flavour that makes every meal special.

🐑 A little about hogget…

Hogget is meat from sheep in their second year of life. It offers the perfect balance between the tenderness of lamb and the richer, fuller flavour of mutton.

We take great pride in rearing our animals with care, producing honest, high-quality meat with a true sense of place.

If you’re looking for outstanding flavour, naturally grass-fed meat and a source you can trust, our meat boxes are for you.

A few lads, a few good dogs & a woman.
Another day of sheep gathering is done. Now we shear and dose them so they won’t get killed by flies and maggots!

Couldn’t have done the job without our great neighbours, friends & their dogs! Thanks again lads! 🐑🐑🐕✌️

Snow. Stubborn rams. And a strong-willed working dog.

Lambing is over and it’s time for the twins to explore the mountains.

Together with the dogs, we pushed them gently up the hill a little so they won’t walk the wire along the fields. Some lambs struggled to find their moms (or call the moms being ignorant as they can only think of grass) but as they are all visually marked with letters we know which lamb belongs to which ewe and we made sure they are all reunited.

Last but not least, we had to bring the rams in for a health check before they are also being left off to the mountains.

Another smashing Swaledale lamb was born just now. Only 18 twins and 67 singles left to lamb.

So far we had a fantastic time as we literally started lambing with the first day of sunshine. So lucky that we tend to lamb later than anyone else as we are very up high in the mountains. Spring tends to start a few weeks later than further down the valley.

Another gather. The first of 2024.

The weather improved over the day. Less wind as it was a lil wild in the morning. High up at Carrauntoohill it was still a bit breezy but experienced dogs and their handles managed well to get the majority down today!

Tomorrow we will try to gather the very top ones. Fingers crossed the weather will be on our side!

Time to sow some seeds! After a few very busy days sorting, dosing our ewelambs and preparing the next gather, we got some spare time today and sowed our first veg seeds… with the guidance of @charles_dowding ! 🌱

More reels and stories about our planting process coming soon!

Every day is a learning (and training) day.
Mia is a smart fizzy bitch and with little baby steps and a lot of patience we slowly but steadily improve her stop and pace. Still a long way away from perfection but Rome wasn’t build in a day neither! ;)

BIG LOADS COMING THRU THE GAP OF DUNLOE:
The road of Gap of Dunloe is known for its beauty but also for being a very narrow steep mountain pass which is forged between the MacGillycuddy Reeks and Purple Mountain by glacial flows. So it’s never an easy ride when towing a trailer, especially when the road is packed with tourists - walkers and cyclists but we managed. Though we damaged one trailer... hit a rock! Ooops. The sun kept our mood up though and all bales and humans made it safe to the farm!

Thanks James and the team to help us with your heavy machinery!
