Bloody Tennis

When young phenom Sophie arrives at an elite, highly secretive tennis academy in Southern Europe, toxic competition quickly devolves into body horror, surreal hallucinations, and blood-soaked rituals as players begin to mysteriously vanish. Released on September 25, 2026, Nikias Chryssos’s biting sports-horror satire sparked fierce online debate over its brutal depiction of elite athletic obsession and systemic exploitation in women’s sports—leaving audiences deeply divided on whether it’s a genre masterpiece or downright mean-spirited.

📅 Sabato 10 ottobre – ore 19:00
📍 Cinema 4 Mori, Livorno
🎟️ 𝐈𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐨 6 € (ridotto 4 €)

🎾When winning becomes a matter of survival

𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐘 𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐒, directed by Nikias Chryssos

📅 Saturday, October 10 – 19:00 PM
📍 Cinema 4 Mori, Livorno
🎟️ 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 €6 (reduced €4)

Sophie joins a prestigious women’s tennis academy hidden in southern Europe. There, she discovers a world where competition is pushed to the extreme, with brutal training, fierce rivalries and increasingly disturbing rituals. At this school, only the hungriest survive.

🩸 Mixing 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫, 𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫, Bloody Tennis turns professional tennis into a fight for survival. Echoing the atmosphere of Suspiria, the film combines sport, blood and cannibalism with a sharp look at extreme competitiveness.

💬Nikias Chryssos:
“I see the combination of realistic settings and totalitarian elements as playgrounds from which absurd humour can emerge.”

Last year, we got the male, sports training horror movie. This year sees the women take the center stage, as 5 tennis players are invited to an exclusive academy, where 1 of them is all but guaranteed a spot in Wimbledon.

Late comer Sophie #SandraGuldbergKampp arrives as a replacement for a student who “left early.” We see what really happened. This automatically makes her an outsider amongst her peers. When she can’t finish a mysteriously, viscous, red smoothie, she’s judged weak. The only one who tries to befriend her is Heidi #HelenaZengel, who used to be in last place herself.

Mary (Elisa Löwensohn) runs the academy & Stavkos (Zlatko Buric) is the professional coach. Both come off creepy, but neither holds a candle to Fred (Vincent Romeo). He’s sort of a jack of all trades, but he has killer vibes.

In certain cultures, if you eat the heart of your enemy, you gain that person’s powers/skills. Considering the bloody shake, something’s up w/ the food.

When the prize is announced, training stops & competition begins. Sophie’s still being bullied, but she doesn’t quite know by whom. However, when her now dead mom’s racquets are destroyed, she gets irate. As each girl loses, they are removed from the academy. And as Sophie wins, she finds herself vastly improved in skill & strength. But she runs the risk of losing herself. Can she live with the cost of winning? Not that the alternative is particularly appealing.

Director #NikiasChryssos won Best Director at #FantasticFest this year for this film. And Sandra is a Dutch actor to keep an eye on. #screeningoftheday
