‘Wake Up Call’ is the sixth track on The Prodigy’s ‘Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned’, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024. Today we’re sharing the story of how it all began — how the track was produced, who contributed vocals, and what Slayer had to do with it 🧐
⠀
Everyone knows the main male voice belongs to Kool Keith of Ultramagnetic MCs, but whose female vocals are featured on the track? The All Souvenirs team spoke with Hannah Robinson, who shared her experience.
⠀
At the time, Hannah was a rising session vocalist. “I’d always been a fan, and nothing quite compared to them, especially live,” she recalls. “Their music is so exciting. They take punk, rock, and hip hop and create their unmistakable sound, which still feels fresh.”
⠀
Hannah’s manager introduced her to Neil McLellan, Liam Howlett’s close collaborator. “They were possibly one of the best live acts I’d ever seen, so to suddenly be in a room adding vocals felt like a fever dream,” she said. “Neil and Liam were both there, equally involved, with incredible attention to detail and ideas bouncing off each other in real-time.”
⠀
Alongside her work on ‘Wake Up Call,’ she also provided backing vocals for ‘Hotride,’ complementing its edgy feel. Summing up the album, Hannah says: “‘Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned’ really slaps you around the chops. My favourites are ‘Girls’ and ‘Hotride.’ ‘Girls’ has this retro, big beat vibe, while ‘Hotride’ feels like classic The Prodigy with that driving, cheerleading beat and guitar riffs.”

A Car Crash For Two (Out Now)!

So happy to finally give you some new music. So much has happened since Sleeping In Your Garden, and there’s much more I have to give you.

It’s been an absolute honour and pleasure to work with everyone I worked with on this song, the amazing @myriotmusic, and the brilliant @emrohan - thank you for creating such a wonderful safe space to write in and providing such an abundance of wisdom. @conorhoustonmusic for your bold and unmistakeable flare on the guitar. I also want to thank @sandydworniak @gedmalone @simontbk for introducing me to a whole new world of amazing creatives, and for believing in me ♥️

We filmed the video in the peaks, my most loved place in the world, with my best friends in the world. I want to thank my dad @mortonmcc for being my biggest advocate, for making me feel important in the world and doing everything he can to show me and my music love… and for holding the lights! @wgpeg._ and @josephsfoster for championing me always, helping make the video with us and sticking around in my life all these years I love you guys 🥺 and @melony.lemon , I can’t thank you enough ever for the love, generosity and magic you’ve given to me. I honestly feel like I’m working in the presence of greatness when we make things together. Honoured to be your sidekick in life - to be the receptacle of so many of your best ideas, so much of your time, so much of your Love.
