Sunday, 18th. 7 pm $54/$46 (MIJF show with MJC Marketing support)
RESONANCE (Perth/Melbourne)
Resonance is the latest collaboration from two of Australia’s finest jazz musicians; saxophonist Sandy Evans and pianist Andrea Keller, joined by exceptional vocalists Kristin Berardi and Jenny Barnes.
Inspired by their shared experiences striving to be prolific, creative musicians while juggling the demands of family, care, community and artistic practice, Resonance explores what it means to sustain a creative life across decades. Weaving together new works by Michele Morgan, Hazel Smith and Andrea Keller with settings of poems by Sara Teasdale and Jeannie Greensfelder, the project gives voice to the experiences of women in the arts, opening up conversations around gender, creativity and care. Be swept away by music that moves between composition and improvisation, reflecting the balance between structure and surrender that shapes our lives.
“The evening was one of intimacy, restraint and – yes – resonance, with all four artists focused on listening, responding and sharing, their spirit of openness resonating with the audience in turn.” - The Age

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Kristin Berardi is no longer able to join us on the Resonance tour. We’re incredibly grateful that the wonderful Michelle Nicolle will be stepping in for the entire tour, from 17 October to 1 November, alongside Sandy Evans, Jenny Barnes and myself.

Celebrated as one of Australia’s finest jazz vocalists, Michelle has a voice described as both tender and wistful, yet propulsive and dynamic. Her many accolades include the 2024 Music Victoria Award for Jazz Work of the Year and a National Jazz Award.
As Kurt Elling puts it, Michelle was “born to sing, born to charm, enlighten and seduce through music.”
We’re thrilled to welcome such an exceptional voice to the Resonance tour. We also kindly ask that you respect Kristin’s privacy at this time.

🎶Resonance brings together four incredible women in jazz, Sandy Evans, Andrea Keller, Kristin Berardi and Jenny Barnes, for a night of improvisation, music and storytelling at The Hall.

🎷Drawing on their experiences of building creative lives while caring for family, partners, parents and community, this is a celebration of women in music and the stories that too often go unheard.

💕 A show made by women, for women, and everyone who wants to come along and listen.
