Hopefully Insta allows some tasteful artistic nudity here. More conté crayon studies from the @fortmasonartists life drawing class with @sandyfrankfineart . We just had such a great variety of body types in our models - this guy was like an anatomy diagram. With a bubble butt. Weirdly, though, I feel like I need to do some non-life drawing for a while. @lukamaru.art told me this in a class I took from him at @artschoolsfbay - you can do TOO MUCH drawing from reference, it can kind of block your imaginative drawing. I think I’m feeling that. It might be time to switch gears.

The OFF CENTER Reception was a party! Here are a very few of the wonderful sculptures juried into the show by @heidi_art This is the story behind my Sculpture, IT'S OKAY TO BE A WILD FLOWER! This wild woman’s womb embraces our CA native Iris. Our wild plants, animals and we, are an interdependent web of wildlife. I began this piece as an older woman’s wild celebration, of still loving life, sex, family and creating art. And, I saw it as a defiant gesture! against the challenges of Roe v. Wade! I was also personally challenged by a uterine cancer scare. So, It became therapeutic. No, I don’t have uterine cancer. Again, it became a celebration, but sober, thinking of all those who haven’t been so lucky.   Her watery bodice, breasts and womb embody the ebb and flow of the feminine. Her body’s vessel holds a wildly joyous bouquet made up of a lightning bolt of energy, the moon mirroring the womb, her eye “seeing” you the stars and everything in the universe as entwined. The Okay gesture says it is Okay to be a “lowly wild flower” a “wild” woman, I’m going to be Okay, and the determination that all who identify as women will prevail in the control of their own bodies. AND, it’s Okay to foment the wild notion of changing this system we are struggling to live under. A system that does harm to any life deemed in the way of profit. Evolution, is about adapting and changing. Let’s embrace the wild side and do that!
