We are still reminiscing about this wonderful evening and were honored to have Dianna Braginton-Smith and Edie Vonnegut join us at the Blue Box to share a reading of Kurt Vonnegut’s commencement speech at Bennington College in 1970, recently discovered by Edie in her attic. Not only were we inspired by Kurt’s words so astutely channeled by Dianna, but doubly by the gathering of our community for the evening, leaving no seat left untaken with standing room only.

We are immensely grateful to Dianna and Edie for sharing this beautiful discovery & presentation with The Old Village Store.

Here’s a morning story for you! ☀️☀️☀️ I was driving down route 6a on the Cape to make the airport bus at sunrise - and as I was driving I saw a Robin sitting up in the middle of the road. I figured she would fly away as they always seem to do in a timely fashion. Well, she didn’t, and after I passed, I just had to turn around to see what was going on. With time not on my side, I pulled up on the grass, put my hazards on and saw the Robin’s mate keep flying to her in distress. I walked into the road gently lifting this sweetheart up and saw that her wing was hurting. I put her gently in the grass, marked the spot, and raced to make the bus with a descriptive text of her whereabouts to a few friends. Within no time at all, Dianna (heroine of my day!) raced over and sent me this photo holding the Robin. @sandyneckstudio - you are an 😇 ANGEL 🫶🏼❣️, and I hope @newenglandwildlifecenters 🙏🫶🏼❤️ has room for a visit today for this sweetheart. Rémy, @remykalmbach (who volunteered at New England Wildlife Center in Barnstable) - you would be proud of your Mama and awesome Dianna… 🐦 ❤️🙏

I purchased two beautiful old blue wooden boxes from an antiques shop in Vermont. In the first, I made, and shared here in January, a needle felted barn owl shadowbox that has since found a new home on Cape Cod. There, it was seen by a guest who then contacted me and asked if I could make her a similar one for her. So, here it is! Sure glad I didn’t hesitate to purchase both boxes. It was the gorgeous cerulean blue paint I couldn’t resist. 💙💙 🦉 🌕
