The Giant Wood Spider exhibits extreme sexual dimorphism. Females are massive (30–50 mm) with long, patterned legs, while males are tiny dwarfs (4–6 mm). Males live on the edges of the female’s web, waiting for the right moment to mate, often risking sexual cannibalism where the female eats the male.

When ready, the male approaches a receptive female, usually while she is distracted or feeding. During copulation, males have been known to sever their own genitals, leaving them behind as a plug inside the female to prevent other males from successfully mating with her. After mating, or even during an unsuccessful attempt, the female may kill and eat the male—a behavior known as sexual cannibalism

🌿 Encounter with the elusive Hornbill of NE India ; The Austen's Brown Hornbill, A rare moment from the Dehing Patkai Rainforest.

Austen's Brown Hornbill (Anorrhinus austeni) is one of the most elusive and social hornbill species found in the dense evergreen forests of Northeast India. Unlike their more colorful cousins, these birds are known for their earthy tones and incredible cooperative breeding behavior.
