Ghetto Bird Spotlight

Speaking of my cousin Rakarma.

While I was putting my last post together about my Uncle Ricky, his father, I figured I might as well finally put together a post for him too.

I actually planned on doing this for his 50th back in August, but I forgot his birthday🤦🏾‍♂️ Which is crazy considering Ra was my favorite cousin growing up and our birthdays are only 30 days apart. But I guess that says something about how time has changed our relationship over the years.

For as long as I can remember, Ra lived in the Bay. Thinking about it now, I think we only saw each other during the summers. But those summers were a real part of my childhood.

One of the memories that sticks with me most is taking trips with my grandparents in my grandfather’s camper. I don’t remember every detail, but I remember the feeling of riding in the camper with my cousin.

And I definitely haven’t forgotten the first time my grandfather gave both of us a whooping. It just happened to be on a road trip, in the back of that camper:)

I can’t remember what Rakarma did to get us in trouble, but I’m sure it was all his fault😁

Love you, Cousin. Can’t believe we’re 50.

It’s a beautiful feeling when your people show up for you. If you only knew how long I felt unseen- and then this…..And just like that I have a new perspective on what my life has been and what my next season will be. I am grateful for my children, my love, and my family beyond words. #MamaMOEments

I almost forgot about these photos from the Mamba Invitational this past summer.

Three years ago, we thought it would be a good idea to add some Air West kids to the Mamba Invitational experience. Outside of the free labor 🙂, the goal was to give them an opportunity to experience the event from the floor instead of just watching from the stands.

Unfortunately, not every kid gets a chance to work the event, but we do our best to get as many of them on the Mamba Court as possible.

Here’s a look at some of the Air West boys at the Mamba Invitational this past summer.

You never know. One of these boys might be out there one day🏁

Nolan & Graycn. Mamba Invitational BTS.
Summer moments

The day before the event, I was on uncle duty, so Nolan and Graycn had to tag along with me to work. I’m sure they both thought they were gonna spend the day sitting in a gym watching some boring basketball. Instead, they got a sneak peek at the Mamba Invitational while everything was coming together.

Mamba Invitational ‘26
Photos Shot by Kids 📸

This was our third year having Air West kids work the Mamba Invitational, and this year I wanted to add something a little different. Along with working the showcase, I gave a few of them disposable cameras to document their experience.

Here are some of the pictures the boys took.

Happy Juneteenth. I’m really missing the parks. It’s been seven months and I haven’t been to Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, or Downtown Disney. Last year they hosted their first Disney on the Yard “Yardfest” with an HBCU drumline and Drum Major Mickey Mouse on July 12, 2025; this year it’s on Juneteenth. It was packed, that Saturday evening, and fraternities and sororities came out and was stepping they Stomp the Yard. The event was so beautiful, with so many beautiful people and a sea of colors. I hate I’m going to miss it, but I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s content and loving that this year it’s part of Celebrate Soulfully, even though I’m sad I won’t be there. At least I can say I’ve been to the first West Coast Downtown Disney event ever held!!! lol😂🤣😍🥰❤️🖤💚💛🧡🤎😘💋🤗❌⭕️❌⭕️🥳🎉😇👼🏽🤲🏽👐🏽🙌🏽👏🏽👍🏽👊🏽✊🏽✌🏽💪🏽🙏🏽🗝🎨📻🎙🎤🎼🎹🥁🪘🎷🎺🪗🎸🪕🎻🔈🔇🔉🔊🎵🎶🏰@disneyonyard @disneyparks @disneyland @disney @sincerelyphylicia @bpoetic @melaninintheparks @missgolden_lady @sanimacc @marley_zuri_and_me @botailbyjeffrey @jdschocolate @ttbirdscorpio princess_tamia_26 #disneyontheyard #disneyland #juneteenth #mickeymouse #downtowndisney
