There was a time before “the storm” and “after the storm”. Dark grocery stores to get saimin, friends coming over to wash dishes in your hose because you have water before them, nervous system resets, bits of beauty in chaos, cold things, first hot shower in a minute, and the sound of ice!

Mahalo to everyone who came out to celebrate the unveiling of ‘An Imparting Landscape’. After this last month of creating, planning, painting in the rain, airport runs, lots of good food, and dreaming, seeing so many people gather around this project was pretty magical.

The theme of the evening— An imparting landscape: the transference of knowledge and tradition—how what we know is passed through mentorship, place, family, community, and the lives we live.

A huge mahalo to our incredible artists for trusting this process and creating something so honest and beautiful together. And to the artists who couldn’t be on island with us, we missed you deeply and honored your contributions throughout the evening. This mural belongs to all of you.
There are so many people to thank that helped make this happen, and over the next few days we’ll be sharing more about everyone who poured their time, talent, and hearts into this project.
