📢 Casting Announcement for Passion and Pride

Love. Rivalry. Celebration.

Three powerful visions of artistry come together in Atlanta Ballet’s 26|27 season opener. Remi Wörtmeyer’s Significant Others celebrates the creative worlds of Fanny Mendelssohn and Sonia Delaunay, while Melissa Hough’s premiere Plagued Houses, inspired by Romeo and Juliet, explores the timeless forces of desire, conflict, and fate. George Balanchine’s iconic Stars and Stripes brings dazzling technique, exuberant movement, and unmistakable American flair to the stage, set to the rousing marches of John Philip Sousa in commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary.

Remi Wörtmeyer’s Significant Others, a captivating blend of music and art inspired by Fanny Mendelssohn and Sonia Delaunay, returns to the Atlanta stage for a celebration of love and collaboration that highlights the transformative power of artistic partnerships.

Melissa Hough, recognized for a choreographic style that emphasizes strong technique, clean lines, and precise musicality, will present the world premiere Plagued Houses, inspired by Romeo and Juliet and set to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Commemorating 250 years of our nation’s history with an exuberant finale, Atlanta Ballet presents George Balanchine’s signature style in Stars and Stripes, a masterpiece set to John Philip Sousa’s marches, including the well-known “Stars and Stripes Forever.”

Recommended for ages 10 and up.

Que honra interpretar uma mulher tão complexa, intensa e vibrante como Frida Khalo em um dos ballets mais lindos que já vi na vida, coreografado por uma mulher tão forte e inspiradora que viaja o mundo inteiro com seu trabalho reconhecido e o mais especial… ensaiada por ela. Estive de olhos, ouvidos e coração aberto pra absorver o máximo dessa experiência e aprendi mais do que eu poderia imaginar. Ainda processando todas as emoções mas uma lição que tanto a Annabelle quanto a história da Frida me ensinaram é que autenticidade é a ferramenta mais poderosa que um artista pode ter e eu espero levar isso pro resto da vida.

A colorful portrait of the life, art, and enduring legacy of Frida Kahlo, Frida by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa brings the emotional, passionate, and introspective world of the celebrated Mexican artist to the stage through stunning choreography, vivid imagery, and a rich tapestry of paintings, motifs, and self-portraits.

Don’t miss this breathtaking and vibrant tribute to one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, created by the team who brought Coco Chanel: The Life of a Fashion Icon to the Atlanta stage.

Frida is on stage May 8–10 at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
