Dancers honoring resistance: all over New Mexico folkloric dancers are busy during Cinco de Mayo. The real reason for the holiday is the victory that the Mexican army had over French forces at the battle of Puebla in 1862.
Shout out to all the folkloricas/os today and everyday.

Big Show tomorrow. My first of this new Season and my first full on show since Mom died. 💔

I went to see her today so she could bless me as she did for all my performances since I started in 1996. If not in person, it was over the phone. ❤️

I hope you can join us tomorrow. 🙏

Tickets will be available at the Door starting at 10am.

The Doors will open at 1 pm

And our show will start at 2.

So excited to welcome back Mariachi Plata and Ballet Folklorico Santa Fe to join me on stage for this show.

A special T shirt was designed for this show and will be available for sale at the show - while supplies last... And, of course my music, pictures and posters will be available too!

Meet our dance leader Alex Manzanares!
Alex is a passionate practitioner and teacher of regional dancing from Mexico and the Southwest—in 2007 he founded Ballet Folklórico Santa Fe, an organization that was recently brought on board at the UNM Department of Chicano & Chicana studies to help form and create a credited core class and performing dance group at the university.
Not only has Alex learned the Northern New Mexico steps with the elders who know what’s up, but he’s created his own choreographed versions to reintegrate these local traditions into the tapestry of regional dance performances of the ballet folklórico movement. We worked closely with Alex and BFSF last year in a project to bring renewed creativity to the Taleán, a very rare and beautiful Northern New Mexico figure dance that we learned from elders Reyes and Cordelia García of Pecos. Check out Alex’s original choreography here and on our YouTube, and come dance with Alex TONIGHT at the Eagles!
