Panama nesting update from @conserveturtlesbocas ! Leatherback season has come to an end while hawksbills and green turtles are still nesting! It was a good season for leatherbacks and looks to be an average season for hawksbills so far. It’s also looking like an above average year for greens! Unfortunately, hatchling success has been very low due to the number of nests eroding and not hatching from bad weather conditions. Here are the nest numbers through 9/31:
🐢🥚 Chiriqui: 1872 leatherback, 1114 hawksbill, 11 green
🐢🥚 Soropta: 1186 leatherback, 11 hawksbill, 2 green
🐢🥚 Bluff: 167 leatherback, 87 hawksbill, 3 green
🐢🥚 Drago: 22 leatherback, 84 hawksbill

🐢 Μια Σπάνια Συνάντηση στο Πρόγραμμα του Αμβρακικού 🌊

Η φετινή περίοδος στο Πρόγραμμα του Αμβρακικού είχε μερικές ιδιαίτερα αξιομνημόνευτες στιγμές ✨
Στις 28 Αυγούστου , η ομάδα ενθουσιάστηκε με την καταγραφή της τέταρτης μόλις πράσινης χελώνας 🐢💚 που έχει συλληφθεί ποτέ στον Αμβρακικό.

Η χελώνα ήταν σε εξαιρετική κατάσταση, χωρίς φύκια 🌿 ή άλλα προσκολλημένα αντικείμενα, προσφέροντας πολύτιμες πληροφορίες για την περιστασιακή παρουσία αυτού του απειλούμενου είδους στον Kόλπο.

The season brought some particularly memorable moments.✨
On August 28th, the team was thrilled to record only the fourth green sea turtle 🐢💚ever captured in Amvrakikos.
This individual was in excellent health and showed no signs of algae or other attached organisms, offering valuable information about this endangered species' occasional presence in the Gulf.

🎉🛶Η φετινή περίοδος εργασίας πεδίου για το πρόγραμμα του ΑΡΧΕΛΩΝ στον Αμβρακικό ολοκληρώθηκε! Μετά από 57 ημέρες αφοσιωμένης δουλειάς, η ομάδα μας έφερε εις πέρας άλλη μια επιτυχημένη χρονιά ζωτικής σημασίας για την προστασία των θαλάσσιων χελωνών.

Οι φετινές προσπάθειες είχαν ως αποτέλεσμα 385 συνολικές συλλήψεις, ανάμεσα στις οποίες 384 χελώνες Καρέττα και μία σπάνια πράσινη χελώνα. Η ομάδα ταυτοποίησε με επιτυχία 242 άτομα. Από αυτά, οι 143 επανασυλλήψεις κατά τη διάρκεια της ίδιας περιόδου έδωσαν πολύτιμα στοιχεία για τις μετακινήσεις των χελωνών και την προσήλωσή τους στην περιοχή.

🐢🐢Ένα από τα σημαντικότερα επιτεύγματα της φετινής χρονιάς ήταν η καταγραφή πέντε εντυπωσιακών, μακροπρόθεσμων επανασυλλήψεων. Τέσσερις από αυτές τις χελώνες είχαν μαρκαριστεί για πρώτη φορά το 2013, και αυτή είναι η 12η χρονιά που παρατηρούνται στην περιοχή. Ακόμα πιο αξιοσημείωτο είναι ότι παρατηρήθηκε ξανά ένα ζώο που είχε καταγραφεί τελευταία φορά πριν από 14 χρόνια, το 2011. Αυτό αποτελεί μια δυνατή υπενθύμιση για το πόσο κρίσιμη είναι η μακροχρόνια παρακολούθηση για την κατανόηση αυτών των απίστευτων ζώων.

🎉🛶The 2025 field season for ARCHELON's Amvrakikos project has officially come to a close! After 57 days of dedicated surveying in the Amvrakikos Gulf, our team has wrapped up another successful year of vital conservation work.

🐢🐢This year's efforts yielded a total of 385 captures, including an impressive 384 loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) and a rare green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas). The team successfully identified 242 individuals. From these, 143 in-season recaptures provided valuable insights into how these turtles move and their fidelity to the area.

One of the season’s most significant achievements was the documentation of five impressive long-term recaptures. Four of these turtles were first tagged in 2013, making this their twelfth year of observation. Even more remarkable, one individual observed this summer, was last seen 14 years ago in 2011. This is a powerful reminder of how long-term monitoring is crucial for understanding these incredible animals.

روز 1 تا 30:
تخم بارور می‌شود و تقسیم سلولی شروع می‌شود. در این دوران، ساختارهای پایه لاک‌پشتی شکل می‌گیرند و زندگی کوچک در حال آغاز است.

Inside every sea turtle egg, a tiny life is taking shape. Over the course of 60 days, an embryo transforms into a hatchling ready to break free.

- Day 1-30: The fertilized egg begins cell division, forming the basic structures of the turtle.
- Day 30-50: The heart begins to beat, and the embryo takes shape, with limbs developing.
- Day 50-70: The shell hardens, and the hatchling prepares for its journey to the ocean.

This timeline can differ slightly depending on the species, with factors like temperature influencing the rate of development.
