They rolled out a lineup so filthy and wet it had us shaking:
• Cambodian Meat Salad: Sharp, funky, and packed with a heat that makes you sweat in all the right places 🥩🥵
• Spicy Crab Gravy Noodles: Thick, slippery strands drenched in a heavy, steaming crab gravy just begging to be slurped straight down 🦀💦
• Soft Shell Shrimp: Crispy, golden, and bursting with tender, juicy meat the second you sink your teeth in 🦐🤤
• Hamachi Crudo: Ice-cold, silky sheets of fish sliding effortlessly over your tongue 🐟✨

Think you can handle a table this wild with us, gorgeous?

“Paparazzi” Xzibit’s 1996 song plays during the final montage of Season 1, Episode 6 of The Sopranos. Uncle Jun becomes family boss and the Feds start taking pictures of their mobster dinner. The beginning of the song has camera shutter sounds. Seemed fitting for a bunch of delicious food pictures. I might not have dined with gangsters but I definitely broke bread with the best this past month. Unfortunately September had a lot of mediocre meals, but these right here stood out. Finally got a chance to try @saophilly , and they lived up to the hype! Every dish had a burst of flavors that was deeply satisfying. Everything was delicious but my favorites of the night were the chirasi bowl (a special), the FDR beef skewer, and the honey butter hoe cake (just like every table should get a table pancake; every table needs a table hoe cake). I need to go back to try more! It’s quite disappointing that I don’t have more room in my stomach.

Shout out to our favorite server: Dmitri! Super attentive while being a super cool presence and full of great recs!

Sao was FANTASTIC and definitely worth the hype!!! Was able to get a reservation here after I tried for Mawn, and I’m honestly soooo happy how it worked out. This was so delicious and finally had some oysters that I liked!😍
This is in my top 5 meals in Philly! Swipe to see what we got🩵➡️

Oysters: YUMMMMM. Went with the 2 smaller ones on the menu options (Brian’s favorite and I get freaked out by larger ones so works great)

Aged Hamachi Crudo: so good. Only wish there was more hamachi and less extra toppings!

Hoe Cake: probably my favorite!! Basically a pancake. The sweet pancake was a perfect mix with the salty toppings, I was obsessed.

Mawn Cutlet: sticking to my roots of getting chicken everywhere, but this was SOO GOOD!!! Pickles and the sweet sauce was so yummy and it was perfectly crispy.

Special: Brian’s meal don’t remember what it was called, but bowl was a combination of at least tuna, salmon, sea urchin, trout roe, caviar, etc over rice. Brian loved it!

Dirty martini: not my favorite in the city but still doable

The restaurant was super tiny and warning it did smell pretty strong of seafood with them cooking everything in the open… but adjusted to it after a while🤣
Again this meal was so delicious I hope I get to get another reservation in the future!

At any given moment, there is a good chance I am thinking about food. When I am not thinking about something I have cooked or what to make next, I am probably thinking about something incredible I have eaten out at a restaurant. Here is a compilation of the dishes that have been on my mind the most over the course of the last 8ish months. Mainly Philly area with some NYC mixed in.

1. A Trenton tomato pie from @cjdtomatopies . Some of the best pizza in Philadelphia that operates out of Cartesian brewing three days a week.

2. People who know me, know how much I love onion rings and @sergeantsvilleinn makes some of the best onion rings I have ever had.

3. An outstanding pastry spread from @rougaroubaking with standouts being the peach cobbler tart and the jambalaya hand pie.

I am not lying when I say every single dish from my dinner @theodorabrooklyn could be on this dump, but my favorite flavor combination of the night was the prawns with pineapple pico de gallo.

There’s a reason I have been to @myloup.phl twice since April, and one of the biggest reasons is the incredible raw seafood options. This is a Plateau Fruits de Mer and the standout to me is the pickled shrimp with aioli and saltines that you have to try to fully understand.

My disclaimer is that these are the only pastel de nata I have had, but from people I know who have been to Portugal, I am told that these absolutely hold their own. We went for the blueberry/corn pastel which was ridiculous. The chocolate/sea salt and original variations stay on my mind as well. @gildaphilly

The honey butter hoecake with trout roe and smoked trout salad from @saophilly was as ridiculous as everyone says it is and was the best bite from a seriously great dinner.

Two amazing slices from @lindustriebk . These were the fig/bacon and the margherita slices.

@charpizzaphl is where I chose to celebrate my birthday and I was so glad I did. They make some of the best pizza in the city which I have posted before, but their desserts are some of the best in the city as well. This is the chocolate cream pie.

A place that is precededed by its reputation and hard to get resys , Sao has some of the best food in Philly. After ordering an espresso martini (bc I must) and took a sip I was pleasantly surprised. A restaurant that puts such care into their food obviously does the same with their drinks. With a little hint of banana in this ‘spresso I was on cloud nine, would 10/10000 recommend not just for the food but for the ‘spresso and if we’re honest that’s really what matters here 📍 @saophilly

@saophilly was a perfect extension of Mawn, with its own Cambodian seafood flare. I could eat nothing but their crudo’s for the rest of my life and die happy. The Honey Butter Hoe Cake lived up to the hype, and the service was fantastic. It easily exceeded my expectations and then some, and still stands as one of my favorite restaurants in the city (both Sao and Mawn). A culinary genius with nostalgic Philly flare. Truly an exceptional meal and experience. 🫶🏼✨
