Thank you so much @CIRI for choosing me to be part of the CPC (CIRI Participation Committee) these past 2 years. I honestly had no clue what I was stepping into, but this has proven to be a life altering experience for me, and I am overflowing with gratitude for the opportunity!

Thanks to the CPC, I have been fortunate to experience so many amazing things…
-Visited Alaska for the first time! And then twice more thereafter (along with a lovely visit to Seattle)!
-Learned a ton about CIRI and stoked to learn more, connect deeper, and continue to find ways to share my passion and stay involved with the CIRI family
-Felt like my voice was heard and made a wee impact as I shared questions, concerns and ideas; and some ideas have already been implemented, yay!
-Felt like I was instantly part of a family as I met and developed friendships with some of the most inspiring, smart, creative, and interesting human beings.
-Discovered my Alaskan Native heritage as I visited the town my great great grandparents helped build and establish, met a long lost cousin who still lives on the old family homestead, and connected so many missing pieces in my family history and heritage
-Received my first Inuit tattoo from an amazing artist @Holly helping me to connect with my Aleutian heritage, pay homage to the mythology of Sedna, and preserve a traditional form of art
-Experienced some breathtaking moments in nature:
- A pod of Beluga whales playing near the shoreline while walking the beach in Kenai
- A congress of big, beautiful bald eagles while camping in Ninilchik
- The everlasting glow of the sky during the transition from sunset to sunrise in the summer
- The shock and awe while looking out my airplane window and seeing a seemingly endless ocean of mountains and glaciers
- The magnificence and energetic intensity I felt while hiking up to Flattop Peak in Anchorage
- Overwhelming reverence for the power and beauty that is Alaska

Overall, this has been an amazing journey and am excited to see where this path will lead. So it is with immense honor and gratitude that I say “Quyana” @CIRI
🙏🥰🙏

Being a young academic, I get to enjoy a lot of travel and networking opportunities. Networking, meeting amazing and smart people, is inspiring and also exhausting. There is a sense of glamor. However, when I'm not enjoying those perks of seeing friends, I am at my desk, researching and (hopefully) writing... (most often Im staring at my screen thinking im not smart enough for this 😅🥲🙃), grading students work, teaching classes, and trying to plan for the next conference. We work hard and play hard and seeing my friends and taking that time to be free is everything ✨️

@plasticfreephd truly showed me the thrills of conferencing haha truly appreciate you and bringing me under your wing 💜

The Arctic Sultry Sirens (ASS) were out in full force last night for the @anchorpirates pub crawl. Mayhem, broken hearts, and (nearly) indecent exposure were left in our wake.
