A month ago, eleven actors from around the world walked into an empty room in Venice. What happened next is too much, and I’m still searching for the words to describe it. A tremendous act of self-deception. I know it can’t be done.
As I continue to process the green and the blue, the bodies in perpetual motion, the blisters, and water in all its forms—lagoon, tears, shore, sweat, coffee—and the fact that we can remember what it means to be, and even become more human, one game at a time, one shared glance at a time, one dance in a circle at a time, while rebuilding and reimagining a world that has ended and keeps ending every day, all I can do is be grateful.
Thank you, Willem, and the entire Biennale team (Marco, Alessia, and many others). Thank you, Eva, Mary, Simon, Silvia, and Niccola, for your guidance and support. And thank you to the wonderful group with whom I shared this experience. You made it unforgettable.
