a good โ€˜ol Sunday @ one of my favorite places ever, & what a gift it is to serve the house. ๐Ÿค

about a year ago, I finally took the step to serve on our photo team. for years before that, I could give you every excuse in the book for why I couldnโ€™t serve.

I have so many kids.
I donโ€™t have help with the kids.
it would make for such a long day for all of us.
my husband is always deployed.
we live 45 minutes away.
am I even qualified to take photos?

and the list could go on.

but about a year ago, I finally stopped letting all of those reasons keep me from saying yes. and I am so incredibly grateful that I did.

now? catch me serving just about every weekend we are able to. filling in when someone has something come up. I truly canโ€™t get enough of it.

because somewhere along the way, I realized you get a whole lot more out of serving than you ever do just being served.

as pastor alex said today, โ€œwe grow in circles, not in rows.โ€ and our family has absolutely grown since I made the decision to serve, especially during a time of major transition as my husband has been navigating retirement from the military.

Iโ€™m surrounded by people who lift me up. people who teach me something new. people who pray with us and for us. people who intercede when we are walking through something hard. people who notice something is off even when I havenโ€™t said a word. people who have been believing and contending for healing and freedom along with me. people who are quick to hold one of my kids, push the stroller around, or simply step in when they see that I need an extra set of hands.

theyโ€™ve become our people.

itโ€™s easy to attend a big church and still feel lost when all you do is consume. that was us for a long time. serving changed that for us. we are living testimony that community is vital. that we werenโ€™t meant to do life, raise our babies, walk through hard seasons, or grow in our faith alone. sometimes finding your people starts with simply saying yes.

what a gift it is to serve the house. what an even bigger gift it has been to realize how much the house has poured right back into us. beyond grateful for and blessed by tbco. ๐Ÿค
