The perfumer, Sarah McCartney, has created Blaze of Glory, a new collection of 4 fragrances out later this year. 26er and Wordstock’s resident quick-scetch artist Lydia Thornley created the visuals. Two worlds come together in a collaborative writing session, responding to scent and image.

I have an interview coming up with Sarah McCartney of 4160 Tuesdays, and this is going to be much more than a new-release conversation. 🥰🥰

Sarah sent me five of her latest perfumes: Lifted, Lavender Rice, Cathedral Library, Flawed Fern and Post Modern Ice Cream Parlour.

We’re going to smell them together, talk about what she was trying to create, the materials and decisions behind them, and then go much further.

I want her take on what “niche” means now, whether the industry is releasing too much perfume, what genuine independence looks like today, and what is changing with materials, pricing and regulation.

Sarah has been one of the more candid voices in independent perfumery for years, so I’m very curious to hear where she thinks the industry is getting it right, and where it is getting it wrong.

It was a day only Bristol County, Massachusetts could give you: the hazy sunshine, heat that had to be 90, the humidity so thick that you could cut it with a knife—the kind that makes everything smell with added gusto. He gazed up into the August sky and figured it was just about noontime. He'd been up since the sun broke through his bedroom window; he was sweaty, starving, and could use a pint of ale.

He went to the pump, washed his hands, and threw the weather-beaten old leather saddle atop his horse. The week had been long and next week would be longer—the scent of ripe wheat reminding him he still had several fields to harvest.

He mounted the tired creature and headed for French's Tavern in Berkley—the beer and food were good; he could chat with his neighbors and other farmers.

He inhaled deeply as he rode: the scents of virgin pine forests, wet forest soil rich with decay, stands of cedar being felled and made into planks, the medicinally dry woodiness evoking memories of his mother's cedar chest.

The tavern, a modest but sturdy building, was a welcome sight. He dismounted and tied up the horse. As he entered the establishment he wasn't sure which was more inviting: the smell of the freshly brewed hop-laden ale, the exotically spiced meat pies, or the nods and greetings from his fellow farmers.

He sat at a table with a doctor he knew from Taunton, a kindly elderly gent. He'd stopped in for nourishment and libation after he finished his morning rounds in the stifling heat. His sweaty presence mingled with the sweet dried tobacco he was using to stuff his pipe, the dregs of beer at the bottom of his pewter mug, and the leather of his new bag—a gift from a grateful patient whose wife and child he saved during a difficult labor.

Was reading comments about @houseofsarahbaker Tartan perfume today while was combating the heat of my flat and enjoying scent waves of cedar and leather off my skin, and found out the perfect description of this perfume. It Scottish fougere. The new reading of classic in a shape of traditional costume of brutal Scottish man. Amazing work of @sarahmccartneythinks. Looking forward to discover more❤️

We’ve just about caught our breath after a hectic month and have been looking back on an incredible week in Athens with our friends, our community, and our industry. ✨ Spellkast Updates ✨

1. May was incredibly dynamic, so here are a few highlights from the studio - small and big moments shaping the journey forward.

2. Lilac season in Stockholm was in full bloom and I stopped to smell almost every bush. The subtle differences in each colour - indolic, almost animalic to crisp and anisic - took me back to Sofia, Bulgaria, and that nostalgic feeling of carefree summer approaching.

3. This was also the month I finalised all product safety & compliance for my upcoming perfume launch. A long but essential process - I’m proud, grateful, and excited to share that four fragrances will soon be ready for you to experience.

4-5-6. From the jasmine-scented streets in Bergamo to the orange blossoms in Riva del Garda (only the bees and I stopped to smell them), Italy offered constant sensory inspiration. At @accademia_carrara , the Tarot – Origins, Cards, Fortunes exhibition was a true highlight—especially the 15th-century Colleoni deck. A small hint at the inspiration behind my fragrances… would you like me to share more about tarot?

7. Back in practice, I held a “Scent, Sense and Symbols” session with @_reconstructions ons - where each participant created a scented talisman. Thank you for the trust!

8. Grateful as well to @johan.foreverlost for materialising another botanical idea: Rosa damascena, Bulgarian rose, a reminder of home.

9. I also passed my certification for shipping dangerous goods (perfume included). Complex—but worth it. And yes, sitting next to @sarahmccartneythinks ks made the course much more enjoyable!

10-11. London moments: visiting @4160tuesdays days HQ, catching up with @scenthusiasm_ltd , and paying tribute to Pamela Coleman Smith at @treadwellsbooks

12. Ending the month quietly, enjoying the light and shadow play in the studio in Stockholm. ✨
