The conscious lies in the beat ✨ last night at @barzakh.cafe - starting the flame with Sahra, an open jam of stories conveyed through sounds and beats, leading into communal dance and dabke with @ramzigrams taking us to explore folk dances of Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, Morocco, Syria, and Jordan. To the powerful, activating voice and music of @farafina78 engaging the room in Malian tradition and heritage with a dance-off of a lifetime.

Dabke and SWANA dance class Thursday 7-8:30pm @265 w 37 street studio 206. NYC#dabke #lebanon🇱🇧 #palestine🇵🇸 #syria #swana Ramzi El-Edlibi runs a weekly Dabke and SWANA dance class in Midtown Manhattan, blending traditional Levantine folk dance with modern flow arts. The class meets Thursdays from 7 to 8:30pm at Studio 206, 265 W 37th Street, a regular spot for his sessions.

Dabke is a Levantine line dance rooted in Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Iraq and Jordan, often performed in unison with rhythmic footwork and clapping as a celebration of community and heritage. SWANA refers to Southwest Asia and North Africa, so the class covers a broader range of Arab folk styles beyond just Dabke. Ramzi, a choreographer and educator, also weaves in percussive elements like the LED frame drum you see in the video, mixing traditional movement with contemporary performance. The class is aimed at all levels and serves as both a cultural gathering for the NYC diaspora and a social dance workout.
