Your third trimester (30-35 weeks) is an ideal time for the prenatal visit, and it’s encouraged that your partner or support person attends. Whether you’re a first-time parent or want a refresher after nursing an older child, we will discuss your breastfeeding goals and I will provide tips and reminders to help you get off to a great start! We will review the fundamentals (such as how milk is made, baby’s intake needs, feeding cues, and proper latch positioning), reflect on what’s normal with lactation & nursing, and gather resources before baby arrives to help you feel more confident and set up for success. We will also review your health and breastfeeding history, pinpoint any issues that may impact your breastfeeding experience, and develop a care plan for initiating breastfeeding.

Our visit is in office or virtual. Duration is 1 hour. The first step to meet with me is to see if your insurance is covered. Links are listed at mybirthrva.com/lactation (link in bio) and then fill out the inquiry form and I’ll be in touch!

I’m Sara Krivanec, a birth doula of 25 years, childbirth educator and IBCLC Lactation Consultant at MyBirth. Here’s an update on my birth availability looking at late winter & spring 2027.

I’m attending fewer births, working with repeat clients, VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) hopefuls, and new clients having subsequent babies (2nd, 3rd, ect…).

My Doulamatch link is in my bio. I can’t wait to support you and your growing family! ✨

Testimonial for @sarakdoula ✨
I love working with the sweetest families over and over again! ✨

“We truly can’t say enough wonderful things about Sara! 🤍

We first had Sara by our side for the birth of our first son, and after that experience, we knew there was no question that we wanted her with us again when welcoming our second son. In fact, I’m pretty sure Sara was one of the first people to know we were pregnant (we reached out with our positive test at just 4 weeks), because there was absolutely no way we were going to risk her being booked by someone else! 😂

I had an unmedicated birth with our first son, and we knew going into our second birth that we wanted to do it again. With Sara by our side, lots of encouragement, and probably a few moments where she was more confident in me than I was in myself, we accomplished that goal again!

We already knew how comforting, gentle, knowledgeable, and supportive Sara was, but somehow, she exceeded our expectations all over again. She has such a calming presence and has a way of making you feel confident and cared for, even during the moments when you’re questioning whether you can actually do this. 😂

One thing people maybe don’t realize about having a doula is that the support isn’t just for mom. Sara was just as supportive of my husband, giving him ideas and guidance on ways he could help, comfort, and be involved throughout labor. Having someone there to support both of us made such a difference.

Sara truly became such an important part of both of our birth experiences, and we feel so lucky to have had her there for the arrival of both of our boys. We genuinely can’t recommend her enough to anyone and everyone preparing to welcome a baby into the world. A doula is a must, and Sara is the one you want by your side!” 💕

✨ SURRENDER ✨

You might think, “that’s a hard one for me”…but in this pregnancy, just think, you already have.

How have you listened to what your body needed during this pregnancy? What about when you recognized you needed more and asked for help? That rest in early labor you did so well, helped you to welcome in your oxytocin and have endurance for your strong labor. And what about staying with your breath and in the present moment with this new baby?

Isn’t it nice to know that you have the team at MyBirth - doulas, birth educators & a lactation consultant - to help guide and support you during this time? Reach out to us if haven’t already! You ARE surrendering and you’ve got this!

Feel free to add in the comments what surrendering means to you…

LACTATION PREP: RETURNING TO WORK (Online)

It can cause some uncertainty as we think about being away from our baby. We will explore in depth how to prepare in a way that feels doable and eases your mind on the logistics.

In this class we’ll cover protecting your milk supply while pumping & when to start storing it at home. Safe milk storage, nipple types and paced bottle feeding is also covered. We’ll look at flange sizing and making sure you understand your pump’s settings. And you’ll see what a real life working mom’s schedule can look like- how to balance your busy day and collect your milk. Supplemental handouts are included and lots of time for Q&A. Go forward feeling prepared for this next stage! Taught every other month by Sara Krivanec, IBCLC. Recommended to be taken around 3-4 weeks postpartum.

Upcoming sessions: September 22 from 6-7:30p on Zoom.

If you are working with a MyBirth doula, you will receive a 10% discount- find your code in your welcome letter. Visit https://mybirthrva.com/classes-education to register —> LINK IN BIO

What does an in-home lactation appointment with our IBCLC, Sara Krivanec, look like?

Before your two-hour visit, I’ll review your intake form to look over exactly what your concerns are and what you need more support with. Your feeding goals will be always lead the way in our relationship.

In most cases, I’ll observe a feeding, give pointers and encouragement, and make sure that you feel comfortable with any new techniques before you’re on your own. A weighted feed may come in handy to see how the transfer of milk looks. Moms sometimes have questions around supply, normal infant intake & growth, flange sizing for their pump or settings for the best output. There is a lot of education and emotional support in this work, so my background as a doula comes in handy! 😊
