POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Continuing my posts about my bookish activities and events this year ...

June was a busy month! So I'm splitting it into two posts.

Highlights of June (part 1):
- Bernie's Book Bank created a display of 50-hour-club members' books. A fun surprise!
- Summer of Stories panel at Barnes & Noble Hyde Park Chicago
- East Dundee Author Fair
- Summer Reading Celebration at Barnes & Noble in Racine, WI.

Chicago sure was SPARKLING with Kidlit folks last weekend! Thank you @americanlibraryassociation for the incredible event! (I felt like I was at camp.)

Extra thanks going out to @simonkids and my pals at @beachlanebooks for all the PRETTY CLOSE, BUT NOT THE SAME love. To the team at @harperkids who made me feel so special. To the @hippoparkbooks crew for all the fun and to the @penguinkids team for the bonus awesomeness.

I had more than a blast-and-a-half romping around with @mollyidle @juanamartinezn & @lisa.anchin. The giggles were, of course, endless & infectious with @steph.o.mchugh & Mary (Steph’s Bookend.) And it was such a treat to catch up with @kitonlit @vanlieshoutstudio @katrinamoore1011 @sparky9284 @sarashacter @stevesheinkin @jasharawan @sonjacherrypaul @jillifer_platypus @littlerainey @kateharrisonedits @rachmakesbooks @bowru

Until we meet again, dear friends!!

P.S. Photo Credit for the lipgloss footage goes to Kit Ballenger — thanks for the goofing around!

P.P.S. Cameo appearances by @bshum79 & @cindyderby ’s books.

What keeps a writer going through fifteen years of rewrites, rejection, and uncertainty?

Middle-grade author Sara F. Shacter (@sarashacter ) joins me to talk about the long journey behind her debut novel, Georgia Watson and the 99% Campaign, and how revision became less about “fixing” the story and more about uncovering its emotional heart.

We discuss resilience, imposter syndrome, comparison, and the challenge of staying connected to joy while navigating the publishing process. Sara also shares practical revision strategies, the importance of community, and why progress—not perfection—is what really moves a writing life forward.

If you’re stuck in the messy middle of revision or questioning whether your story is worth continuing, this episode is a reminder that persistence matters more than getting it right the first time.
