To the families of the children we have lost to measles. To the communities impacted by this outbreak. To the sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, including the sailor who was in crisis and is now reportedly being punished:

We see you. We support you. And we are so sorry for how you are being treated.

This is not okay.

You do not deserve to be met with denial when you are grieving. You do not deserve to be blamed, dismissed, or punished when you are suffering. And you do not deserve to have your pain deflected away by the very people and institutions responsible for your care.

Please understand this: You deserve better.

You deserve care.
You deserve compassion.
You deserve accountability.
You deserve to be treated with dignity and humanity.

And to anyone watching this unfold and feeling helpless: bearing witness matters. Refusing to look away matters. Continuing to say, “This is not okay,” matters.

Because when people in power respond to preventable suffering and mental-health crises with punishment, denial, and deflection, we have an obligation to tell the truth about what is happening.

We see you. We believe your suffering matters. You deserved better than this.

as I'm budgeting catch up myself after an accidental pause in my weekly giving, I am wondering how many others might not have contributed toward direct aid to families in G_za recently.

our family is returning to a practice of sustained giving using the autopay option on cash apps. make a single meaningful contribution now, or better, determine how much you can give on an ongoing basis with weekly or monthly contributions.

the Give 4 G_za direct aid fund provides four families with the money they need to keep housing, purchase groceries, seek medical care, and other basics of living. the fund supports at least three dozen people including young children.
