“DANSE DE MINUIT” It is a choreography based on the poem by Henri Cazalis that I had the opportunity to create for the final Gala of L’Academie Princesse Grace de Monaco last June, alluding to the great French composers, in this case using the music of Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saenz who composed this piece thanks to that poem.

As part of the Scholarship Programme of the Semperoper Foundation – Förderstiftung, Sarika Emi joins the Semperoper Ballett this season.

Originally from Japan, Sarika trained at the Sachiyo Hashimoto Ballet School (2016–2021) and at the Académie de Danse Princesse Grace in Monte-Carlo (2021–2025).
You can currently see her in „The Nutcracker“; later this season, she will dance in „The Sleeping Beauty“ and „Nijinsky“, among other ballets.

We are very happy to welcome Sarika to Dresden and look forward to seeing her on stage!

Im Rahmen des Stipendienprogramms der Stiftung Semperoper – Förderstiftung tanzt Sarika Emi in dieser Spielzeit mit dem Semperoper Ballett.

Sarika stammt aus Japan und erhielt ihre Ausbildung an der Sachiyo Hashimoto Ballet School (2016–2021) und an der Académie de Danse Princesse Grace in Monte-Carlo (2021–2025).

Derzeit ist sie im „Nussknacker“ zu erleben; in dieser Spielzeit wird sie außerdem unter anderem in „Dornröschen“ und „Nijinsky“ tanzen.

Wir freuen uns auf die gemeinsame Zeit in Dresden und darauf, Sarika auf der Bühne zu sehen!

last time i was on stage, i was in tears because i was leaving the stage of Oper Leipzig that was used to be my home and my everything for 11 years... 💐
tonight was my very first show with @semperoperballett , dancing " Vertical Road " master piece of Akram Khan. i am extremely honored for this beautiful and unique journey with dancers and wonderful team that guided us and inspired us everyday. being part of this beautiful company is a gift.
my new journey in Dresden has just began but already, simply, grateful🤍

Starting tomorrow, Akram Khan will bring “Vertical Road,” a work of powerful spiritual energy, to our stage.

The British choreographer combines elements of Western contemporary dance with the tradition of Indian classical dance, and has been shaping the international dance scene for over two decades.

The title of the ballet evening, “Wings and Feathers”, comes from a poem by the Persian mystic Rumi (1207–1273), which inspired Akram Khan to create “Vertical Road.”

The piece was created in collaboration with Nitin Sawhney and Aditya Prakash (music), Kimie Nakano (costumes, stage) and Jesper Kongshaug (lighting, stage).
