Some stories end when the curtain comes down. Others stay with you forever. Kinky Boots. Big heels. Bigger personalities. Glitter, laughter and a score that makes it impossible to sit still. But underneath it all a story about something much more important: the courage to be who you are and the willingness to let someone else do the same. Before we had even opened, we became part of that conversation ourselves. Words like representation and whitewashing entered the discussion and forced us to look closely at the story we wanted to tell and the responsibility that comes with telling it. We listened. We talked. We questioned ourselves. And we kept working. And then our Lola stepped onto that stage… with strength, vulnerability, humour, generosity and an enormous heart. A Lola I am incredibly proud to know. And then this cast did something beautiful. They learned that vulnerability is not weakness. That trust has to be earned. That generosity makes everyone better. That you can disagree and still stand beside one another. They stepped up. They learned how to carry one another, on stage and off. I watched this company become so much more than a cast. Night after night, they gave that story to an audience. And the audience gave it back. The laughter, the silences, hundreds of people on their feet, cheering, dancing, crying. We made something alive. Something generous. Something that mattered. @kyliancampbell thank you for convincing me to do this with you. @bruxellons @jack.cooper.artiste @oliviermoe thank you for your trust and humanity. @alexia.cuvelier @kristellamerichs and Laure Campion thank you for the girl power! @nordinthewiz thank you for taking such good care of all of us @thomas.vanhauwaert thank you for bringing this story to life with your amazing musicians! And to this extraordinary cast: thank you for trusting us ❤️ So many people who were part of this summer have found a permanent place in my heart. To all of you — on stage, backstage, in the orchestra, behind the scenes and in the audience — thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️ The heels may be back in their boxes (for most of us). But I think we all walk a little differently now… 👠✨❤️

Maybe, in the end, it’s not about the shoes. Not about the color, the glitter, or how high your heels are. These are merely masks we use to convey something bigger- the roles we take on, sometimes by choice, sometimes because others have assigned them to us. This summer, I had the privilege of being part of Cindy Lauper’s “Kinky Boots”. A story that masquerades as a cheerful, colorful musical, yet strikes closer to home. It’s about what remains of you when you let go of all expectations. What happens when we stop trying to change one another and simply try to understand. I learned that you can find each other in places where you didn’t think you’d be able to find one another at first. It’s a story in which something small lies behind every big laugh. In which people sometimes have to lose each other first in order to truly see one another. Maybe that’s why shoes are such a beautiful metaphor. Because sometimes you don’t have to step into someone else’s shoes. You just have to find the courage to stand in your own. The shoes are back on the rack now, but I’ll carry the step I was able to take with me. I’m grateful for this summer, for those who were part of it, and for this story that gave me new insights.

✨👠 JUST BE WHO YOU WANNA BE. 👠✨ Mijn avontuur als kleine Simon/Lola in Kinky Boots bij Bruxellons zit erop… Het waren niet alleen fantastische voorstellingen, het waren vooral de mensen die het zo bijzonder maakten. Merci voor de knuffels, de handshakes, de dansjes, de soundchecks, de MI MAN!’s, de blikken waarvoor geen woorden nodig waren en al die kleine momenten achter de schermen die niemand in de zaal zag, maar die het zo bijzonder maakten. En natuurlijk mijn legendarische valpartij… want blijkbaar kon deze productie nog wat extra drama gebruiken. Ik kwam hier om kleine Simon/Lola te spelen, maar kreeg er een hele familie bij. Een plek waar ik mocht lachen, zot doen, knuffelen, vallen (letterlijk 😭), weer opstaan en vooral: helemaal mezelf zijn. Dankjewel aan iedereen die mij steunde, in mij geloofde en me telkens opnieuw het gevoel gaf dat ik erbij hoorde. Kleine Simon mocht dromen. Lola mocht stralen. En ik? Ik mocht gewoon mezelf zijn. ✨ De laatste buiging is gemaakt, de laatste handshake gegeven en mijn hakken mogen uit… Maar de herinneringen en vriendschappen neem ik voor altijd mee. Mijn hart loopt over. 🥹❤️ Merci, fantastische Kinky-familie. Je vous aime! 😘 Lola/Simon out. 👠🌈❤️
