Joan Miró was a painter, poet, sculptor, ceramist and so much more. Born in Barcelona in 1893 from a family of craftsmen, Joan Miró began painting at the age of 8. He joins the School of Fine Arts of Llotja, then the one in Barcelona where he discovers the beautiful creations of past artists and finds inspiration. Despite being very attached to his native land, Catalonia, it was his departure to Paris in 1920 that marks the beginning of his artistic career. From then on, his production did not stop! He produced more than 2,000 paintings, 5,000 drawings, and collages, as well as 500 sculptures and ceramics. These statistics are startling, illustrating the nature of the painter: free and inspired. Joan Miró was on the go during every moment in his life. He went from medium to medium, movement to movement, and country to country. He never confined himself to one thing, as he explains: “What is important is not to finish a work, but to get a glimpse that one day, it will allow you to start something“. The evolution of his works is a testament to this, moving from figurative minimalism to abstract expressionism. They’re full of constellations, women, comets, birds, and are imbued with such lyricism that one no can no longer tell where to look. Welcome to the fascinating and mysterious universe of a painter who, throughout his life, hoped to contain dreams in his works! #joanmiro #catalonia #barcelona #spain #paris #painter #sculptor #poet #ceramist #art #remarkable #20thcentury

Are you folks awake? Notice a pattern? 1) Rochester Chief of Police (black male) and entire police command force - quit today. He fails to find the humor in impugning his integrity daily. The mayor (black female) is being asked to resign as well. 2) Dallas Chief of Police (black female) also resigned today. 3) Portland Chief of Police resigned (black female: ironic name: Danielle Outlaw) -- she is taking the Chief of Police position in Philadelphia (watch out Philly - your police force is 2x the size of Portland, and Outlaw was fairly incompetent in a far smaller and less gang-ridden city). Meanwhile, Portland is in its 104th consecutive day or rioting and violence. 4) Seattle Police Chief Best resigned (black female). Thank you BLM and the Democrats !!!

George Condo is a contemporary American artist known for his unique figurative paintings and prints. Featuring fractured portraits and aggressive imagery, Condo often recontextualizes paintings from the Old Masters with allusions to contemporary American culture, blending their imagery and techniques with aesthetics that echo Pablo Picasso and Willem de Kooning. “I describe what I do as psychological Cubism,” the artist has explained of his work. Born in 1957, in Concord, NH, he studied art history and music theory at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell. A member of the band The Girls during the late 1970s, Condo met Jean-Michel Basquiat in New York at a show, it was Basquiat that suggested he move down to New York to pursue a career in art. Condo’s first public exhibitions were held in East Village galleries between 1981 and 1983. After a brief stretch working in Andy Warhol’s Factory, Condo decamped to Paris in 1985 for a decade. His influence can be seen in a range of contemporary painters, including John Currin, Glenn Brown, and Lisa Yuskavage. In 2010, Condo collaborated with the musician Kanye West in producing cover art for his album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. A year later, the artist was the subject of a major retrospective exhibition “Mental States,” at the New Museum. Condo currently lives and works in New York, NY. Today, his paintings are held in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Rubell Family Collection in Miami, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., among others. #georgecondo #art #painting #portrait #paris #newyorkcity

The White Crucifixion is a 1938 painting by Marc Chagall depicting the Crucifixion of Jesus. It was painted in 1938 after Chagall had visited Europe, and can be viewed at the Art Institute of Chicago. ▪️Marc Zakharovich Chagall was a Russian-French artist of Belarusian Jewish origin. ▪️The painting emphasizes the suffering of Jesus and the Jewish people. At the sides violent acts against Jews occur such as the burning of a synagogue and invaders. And in the center, Jesus is shown crucified wearing a prayer shawl as a symbol that he is Jewish. ▪️The work is startling as the crucifixion, often seen by the Jewish people as a symbol of oppression, is instead being used to represent their suffering. Many of Chagall’s paintings could be described as lively, romantic, humorous, imaginative, and filled with brilliant colors, but the White Crucifixion is largely drained of color. Chagall painted it in 1938 while living in Paris, in response to the horrifying events of Kristallnacht, the "Night of Broken Glass," an anti-Jewish pogrom of official decree by propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels in Nazi Germany (including Austria and Sudetenland) from the 9th until 10 November 1938. A green figure carrying a bundle is shown crossing the foreground. This figure, who appears in several of Chagall's works, has been interpreted as being either a Jewish wanderer from Yiddish tradition or the Prophet Elijah. Two changes were made by Chagall to the work, a swastika on the armband of the soldier burning the synagogue was overpainted as well as the words "Ich bin Jude" on a placard around the neck of a man. There is also a Lithuanian flag in the upper right hand of the painting, which is not unexpected due to Chagall's Litvak roots. Also, in the upper left hand portion of the painting there are the red flags of communism. #repost #yoyomaeght #marcchagall #sublime #art #painting #russian #french #artist #stunning #remarkable #1938 #belarussian #belarus

The Beatles by Norman Parkinson ▪️ Norman was a celebrated British fashion and portrait photographer. Credited for inspiring important shifts in the trends of fashion photography, Parkinson left the more posed studio setting to take outdoor shots that were more dynamic and carefree than his contemporaries, adding inventive humorous elements in to his work. Parkinson’s work regularly appeared in magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, earning a reputation for finely produced images that combined elegance with British charm. “I like to make people look as good as they'd like to look, and with luck, a shade better,” he once quipped. Among one of his most iconic images is Jerry Hall, Russia, Vogue (1975), featuring the model standing on top of a plinth in a red swimsuit and heels, poised on the verge of a dive. Born on April 21, 1913 in London, England, he began his photography career as an apprentice to Speaight and Sons court photographers in 1931. He would later take over as official court photography to the British monarchy following the death of predecessor, Cecil Beaton, in 1975. Parkinson would create many indelible portraits of the royal family, and was the recipient of the title Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. He died on February 15, 1990 while on assignment in Singapore. #normanparkinson

She is a member of an extended family of eminent artists: her husband, Paresh Maity; uncle Sakti Burman who lives and works in France, though he is considered an Indian artist; and her cousin, Maya Burman. In 2005, she helped create an exhibition called "The Family" featuring work of all these artists. Burman works mainly in watercolor, using rich strong hues and bold themes with a mythic element—strange hybrid animals with human heads, female figures. South African Painter Lisa Brice #art #painter #blue #cat #capetown #southafrica #london #nyc #lisabrice #beauty #animallovers #catbestfriend #artist #africaamazing #africa #angola #luanda #luandangola Lisa Brice is a contemporary South African artist known for her paintings of ghostly nudes in bordello-like spaces. Wavering between abstraction and representation, Brice’s subject matter and application of paint calls to mind the works of Édouard Manet and Pierre Bonnard. “Uncertainty is central to painting and its strength, and that’s very much what attracts me to the medium,” she has explained. Born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1968, while working as an assistant for Sue Williamson during the late 1980s, she attended the Michaelis School of Fine Art. In 1999, after having had a number of residencies in both Trinidad and South Africa, the artist moved to London. In the years that followed, she had a number of exhibitions in both the United States, South Africa, and England. Brice continues to live and work in London, United Kingdom. Today, the artist’s works are held in the collections of the Iziko South African National Gallery in Cape Town, the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art in Washington, D.C., and the African Collection of Contemporary Art in Luanda, Angola, among others.
