We lost our brother today. No words feel adequate to describe who Joshua Baer was - to Amy, to his family, to Austin, or to me and my family. Our families have been intertwined for over a decade, both personally and professionally.

When we moved to Austin in 2015, Josh and Amy became fast, dear friends, and that friendship blossomed into the kind where both families became one. We traveled together, laughed and cried together, and worked side by side in philanthropy and in business.

Building and co-managing the Capital Factory Fellowship Fund with Josh over the past several years has been the pleasure of my professional life, and we often spoke of the deep satisfaction that has come from our engagement with the Fellows and support of their startups and the Aspen Institute.

In addition to loving his family and community, Josh loved to build, and he loved to be of service. He also loved to laugh. His joy was radiant and contagious.

We are in shock. We are in grief. And, we are filled with gratitude. We are grateful beyond belief that Noah survived the crash.

We are grateful beyond measure for Josh’s life—for all the joy and love he brought into the world, for everything he built, for our getting to be part of it, for every ordinary, extraordinary day of his friendship.

I love you, Brother Josh. I know you and Stormey are flying up to heaven where you are learning all the secrets of the universe. We will miss you every day.
