‘I Am 6 And Brave – Inspiring Short Stories For Boys’ by @satisiroda

This is such a heartfelt and refreshing collection of 15 short stories tailor-made for six-year-old boys, though they can be read at all ages and make a great read-aloud collection for school and at home. These stories focus on friendship, empathy, self-love, courage, kindness, and overcoming fear as the central themes as the different boys in them navigate the tricky landscape of school and society at large. Whether it is figuring out how to handle bullies or becoming more responsible towards nature and animals, whether it is exhibiting kindness to those less privileged, or overcoming your own preconceived notions, the characters in these stories take young readers through different internal conflicts with sharp and witty writing and real-life lessons that stick with not just kids but adults as well. I know I could have used some of these stories when I was growing up. Even though some stories do sound a little wondrous and fantastical, like all kids' stories do, it reminded me of why it’s important to suspend your disbelief for long enough to imagine a better, nicer, kinder world where conflict, anger, prejudice, spite, and negative emotions are overcome through simple acts of love, unity, discipline, and empathy.

The writing here is friendly, easy to read, and follows a set pattern throughout the stories, which I thought was a little repetitive at first, but makes sense when it comes to reinforcement of the ideas in the story. As a plus, the author has also included affirmation exercises in the stories to drive the lessons home.

Definitely a must-read for kids (boys and girls) and parents, not to mention anyone who is still a kid at heart.

Just so you know, thoroughly enjoying 'The Brothers Cabal' by Jonathan L. Howard. And right off the dedication and the chapter titles, I am laughing my FAO! 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you @breeharlowbooks and @satisiroda for the reel ideas

Book Description:

Horst Cabal has risen from the dead. Again. Horst, the most affable vampire one is ever likely to meet, is resurrected by an occult conspiracy that wants him as a general in a monstrous army. Their plan: to create a country of horrors, a supernatural homeland. As Horst sees the lengths to which they are prepared to go and the evil they cultivate, he realizes that he cannot fight them alone. What he really needs on his side is a sarcastic, amoral, heavily armed necromancer.

As luck would have it, this exactly describes his brother.

Join the brothers Cabal as they fearlessly lie quietly in bed, fight dreadful monsters from beyond reality, make soup, feel slightly sorry for zombies, banter lightly with secret societies that wish to destroy them, and―in passing―set out to save the world. *

*The author wishes to point out that there are no zebras this time, so don't get your hopes up on that count. There is, however, a werebadger, if that's something that's been missing from your life.

Candy Cane Challenge ✨

Hallo meine lieben Zuckerstangen.

Ich will eure rot-weißen Bücher bewundern.

🗡️ Assistant to the Villa: Habe ich sehr geliebt!
🌿 The Secret Garden: Eine wunderschöne Geschichte, die mich schon seit meiner Kindheit begleitet.
⁣

‘Coffee Tales’ by Sati Siroda

I love this book! Its 50 short stories are wholesome, ambitious, and heartwarming. The best part is that you can have them with tea and coffee unless you run out of tea/coffee before you finish the story, so then you can have another cup. But what if you still have some left? That’s alright, read another story: they’re that endearing! Win-win, I’d say.

I mentioned they are ambitious earlier because Coffee Tales are like a modern-day reboot of stories with morals and lessons like the ones we used to read when we were kids (e.g. Aesop’s Fables). It’s why this collection is ideal for the whole family, including grandparents who used to read these stories, the kids who grew up to become parents themselves, and the kids of today. The author sets the stories in modern settings but keeps the charm of the old world alive with some rustic, small-town locales. This offers readers a blend of the fast-paced urban life and the quiet, peaceful country life. While a lot of the stories take on a happier, charming outlook, some really struck me as harsh and dark which I did not see coming. But like all the stories, these also made me realize that the lessons offer both happy and not-so-happy endings for people. They also serve as cautionary tales about our choices and how making the right (or wrong) ones takes us on a path that we have no idea of.

Overall, a must-read collection recommended for readers of all ages. There’s something for everyone in ‘Coffee Tales,’ especially an excuse to have more coffee (sold separately 😂 )

2024 turned me into a Xaden Riorson fangirl, made me love LJ Shen's books amongst others, and I fell head over heels for these amazing Indie authors!
