Useful walls - Copenhagen 🌍 Copenhagen - Denmark 📍 55°40′34″N 12°34′06″E Copenhagen is the capital and most populous city of Denmark, with a population of around 1.4 million in the urban area, and more than 2 million in the wider Copenhagen metropolitan area. Originally a Viking fishing village established in the 10th century in the vicinity of what is now Gammel Strand, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century. Beginning in the 17th century, it consolidated its position as a regional centre of power with its institutions, defences, and armed forces. During the Renaissance the city served as the de facto capital of the Kalmar Union. The city flourished as the cultural and economic centre of Scandinavia under the union for well over 120 years, until the beginning of the 16th century Sweden leaving the union through a rebellion, dissolving the union. After a plague outbreak and fire in the 18th century, the city underwent a period of redevelopment. This included construction of the prestigious district of Frederiksstaden and founding of such cultural institutions as the Royal Theatre and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. After further disasters in the early 19th century when Horatio Nelson attacked the Dano-Norwegian fleet and bombarded the city, rebuilding during the Danish Golden Age brought a Neoclassical look to Copenhagen's architecture. Later, following the Second World War, the Finger Plan fostered the development of housing and businesses along the five urban railway routes stretching out from the city centre. ---------------------------------------------------- For more follow: @terra_formation ---------------------------------------------------- #copenhagen #københavn #denmark #war #wall #timelapse #transforming #transformation #urbanism #urbanphotography #architecture #changingworld

Re-established Buda became one of the centres of Renaissance humanist culture by the 15th century. The Battle of Mohács, in 1526, was followed by nearly 150 years of Ottoman rule. After the reconquest of Buda in 1686, the region entered a new age of prosperity, with Pest-Buda becoming a global city after the unification of Buda, Óbuda and Pest on 17 November 1873, with the name 'Budapest' given to the new capital.Budapest also became the co-capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire,a great power that dissolved in 1918, following World War I. The city was the focal point of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, the Battle of Budapest in 1945, as well as the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. A plane in the jungle - Brasilia 🌍 Brasilia - Brasil 📍 15°47'38.5"S 47°54'2.3"O   Brasília is the federal capital of Brazil and seat of government of the Federal District. It was founded by President Juscelino Kubitschek on 21 April 1960, to serve as the new national capital, in a more central region of the country. In 1957 an international jury selected Lúcio Costa's plan to guide the construction of Brazil's new capital, Brasilia. Costa used a cross-axial design indicating the possession and conquest of this new place with a cross, often likened to an airplane. Costa's plan included two principal components, the Monumental Axis (east to west) and the Residential Axis (north to south). The Monumental Axis was assigned political and administrative activities, and is considered the body of the city. The Residential Axis was designed for housing and associated functions such as local commerce, schooling, recreations and churches, constituted of 96 superblocks limited to six-story buildings and 12 additional superblocks limited to three-story buildings. Of course,  with the growing importance and population, the city also grew, abandoning the initial urban layout. In the second image you can see how Costa's plane (top center) is only a small portion of today's city of Brasilia 📸 N.1 Original plan of Brasilia 📸 N.2 Brasilia Today ---------------------------------------------------- For more follow: @terra_formation ---------------------------------------------------- #brasil #brasilia #capital #airplane #landscape #timelapse #lecorbusier #transforming #transformation #urbanism #urbanphotography #architecture #changingworld #environment #flight

A new port - Lomé 🌍 Lomé - Togo 📍6° 8'45.48"N 1°16'18.12"E 🌅 Lomè Lomé is the capital and largest city of Togo. It’s located on the Gulf of Guinea at the southwest corner of the country, with its entire western border along the easternmost point of Ghana's Volta Region. The city was founded by the Ewes and thereafter in the 19th century by German, British and African traders, becoming the capital of Togoland in 1897. At the end of the nineteenth century, British customs duties on imported products (especially on alcohol and tobacco) weighed very heavily. The traders then looking for an alternative, a place to unload goods while being out of reach of British customs officers, naturally targeted the coastal site of Lomé, nearby. This commercial dynamic of customs circumvention and tax evasion then favored the expansion of Lomé around 1880. Today Lomè and its port represent the commercial outlet of the entire country towards the rest of the world. The slow but constant economic development of maritime traffic led to the construction of the new poral basin. Light's plan  - Adelaide 🌍 Adelaide - Australia 📍 34°55'37.7"S 138°36'1.2"E 🌅 Adelaide City Adelaide  is the capital city of South Australia, the state's largest city and the fifth-most populous city in Australia. Named in honour of Queen Adelaide, the city was founded in 1836 as the planned capital for the only freely-settled British province in Australia. Adelaide is a planned city, designed by the first Surveyor-General of South Australia, Colonel William Light. His plan, sometimes referred to as "Light's Vision", arranged Adelaide in a grid, with five squares in the Adelaide city centre and a ring of parks, known as the Adelaide Parklands, surrounding it. Light's selection of the location for the city was initially unpopular with the early settlers, as well as South Australia's first governor, John Hindmarsh, due to its distance from the harbour at Port Adelaide, and the lack of fresh water there. Suburban expansion has to some extent outgrown Light's original plan. Numerous former outlying villages and "country towns", as well as the satellite city of Elizabeth, have been enveloped by its suburban sprawl. In the pictures you can se how the original center of the city is now incorporated in the city's metropolitan area. History Map - Florence 🌍 Florence - Italy 📍 43°46'23.7"N 11°15'23.41"E 🏙️ Florence center Florence is a city in Central Italy and the capital city of the Tuscany region. Florence was a centre of medieval European trade and finance and one of the wealthiest cities of that era. The town planning of the city is reminiscent of its entire history. The first Roman city "Florentia" with the usual rectangular layout with the two main streets "cardo and decumanus" in the center is still recognizable in the ordered chessboard on the right bank of the Arno. Then follows the intricate mesh of the medieval city. During the Renaissance, rich merchants shared the city center with the nobles, building fabulous noble palaces. Finally, when Florence became the capital of the new kingdom of Italy in 1865 (until 1871 when the capital was moved to Rome), a new urban layout was given to the city in order to fulfill the functions of a capital. The old village was surrounded by wide avenues and imposing government buildings. 📸 A new capital - Malé 🌍 Hulhumale - Maldives 📍 4°12'25.5"N 73°30'58.7"E 🌅 Hulhumale Island Hulhumale is an artificial island in the Maldives. It was gradually created since 1997 due to the lack of space in the capital Malé. The island currently covers an area of 188 hectares, roughly the size of Male Island. A creation, on which 63 million dollars have been spent so far between reclamation and construction, built two meters above sea level in anticipation of the effects of global warming. Since October 2018, the bridge connecting Hulhumale directly to Malé and Hulhulhe Velana Airport has been opened. This gives the inhabitants of Hulhumale the possibility to reach the capital by car, bus, taxi and motorbike. Hulhumale Lagoon is used for stopping by safari boats.
