🥂🍾🙌🏾 THIS JUST IN! JULY 14 IS OFFICIALLY 714 UNITY DAY: BLACK AND BROWN IN THE OC! 🍊

Thank you to Councilmember Johnathan Hernandez @hernandez4santaana and the City of Santa Ana @cityofsantaana for bestowing the honor of an official proclamation for Black and Brown in the OC to be celebrated annually. Together, through music, dance, speakers, language, and food, we honor the diverse cultures and contributions that create #TheOC. 🍊JOY is a revolutionary act of resistance.

🇬🇾➡️🇺🇸 The origins of #BlackAndBrownOC begin with Producer Deborah Jane's parents, James @jamesalbertburkejr and Shelley Burke @shelleyannpamela, who immigrated to Orange County and built a remarkable life for their children, living the American Dream.

But the dream had nightmares: marginalization, racism, white flight. The pain and isolation inspired Deborah Jane to write her song #TheOC, which grew into a community celebration designed to cultivate unity. Produced by @hodjstudios, the first event launched in 2024, where the vision of an annual 714 Unity Day was birthed.

📣 In 2026, Co-Producer and Non-Profit Leader Tiesha Hutchins @queent_381 and Publicist Taylor Contarino @taylorcontarino joined the movement and expanded the vision! ❤️ This vibrant event is supported by the Santa Ana Arts & Culture Grant @creativesantaana, the African American Alliance Fund through Tammy Tumbling @ttumbling, Orange County Community Foundation @occommunityfdn, and Carrie Freitas @carrie.freitas.here. It is also sponsored by the Office of Councilmember Johnathan Hernandez and supported by 4th Street Market @4thstreetmarket, @fakasislandgrill, @jacksonlegacybbq, and Hallelujah! I Have a Testimony @sirlamb.dl.

🎵 We were honored by incredible multicultural performers, including DJ Rubixcube @rubxaxdubofcal1fa and muralist Salina Mendoza @salinamendozaart, inspiring guest speakers Dr. Shelley Burke @unsungheroesnurses, President Bobby McDonald @ibdmac13, and Chair Alan Woo @chairmanwoo1949 of the Black Chamber of OC @socalblackchamber. We were also honored by VIPs including @letitiacclark and @farrahforoc.

From Pioneers to a Proclamation. Welcome to the OC. We'll see you next year! 🍊🎉🥂🍾🙌🏾❤️
