DON'T DO WHAT WE DID!!! These oleander flowers are TOXIC, and we had no idea. Thank God Arya rarely puts things in her mouth... This could have sent her to the ER. Just a warning to those with kids, and without them since I know the girlies like putting flowers in their hair. 🌸

Yesterday, I realized I never did a post about Arya's birth and the days that followed. This is a lot to unpack, so bear with me. 😅

Our beautiful baby girl was born in the early morning, after a late night of discomfort, pains, and intense contractions that led to her birth. Although her head was down (thank god), it was facing my stomach, sunny side up. Instead of experiencing abdominal cramps and pelvic pressure (which was certainly present as I pushed her out), the majority of my labor pains were in my lower back.

When I tell you I am an all-natural girlie, think breastmilk soap as party favors for my baby's first birthday – yes, I really did that! I planned to have a natural (meaning vaginal) unmedicated birth... That was the plan. Speaking of, I made a birth plan and brought it with me, feeling like the most prepared person in the world! Not to mention, my supportive husband who wanted what I wanted and would back me up, no matter what.

My labor happened quickly (about 3 hours from 4cm dilated and on), so I had to decide in a very short period of time whether I wanted to get an epidural or not. I think that was part of the problem... Had I labored longer, I think my body would have stretched in a more controlled manner. The pain was so extreme, and I felt like something (or someone) was stabbing my back from the inside. I'm grateful Nick practiced counterpressure (basically a deep tissue massage in the exact area I was experiencing pain) on me, which made a huge difference in how I felt. He also cut the umbilical cord!

Needless to say, I opted for it and wooooow, it certainly didn't numb me. One of the questions my doctor asked after was, "Do you feel anything?" I was like, EXCUSE ME, I'M PUSHING OUT A BABY! She told me some women go completely numb and feel nothing but pressure. How nice that would have been... But, I felt everything– pain and pressure, only lessened. Now, I was suuuper itchy because of it. But, otherwise, highly recommend! It's such a nice tool to have a more enjoyable birthing experience. Don't rule it out simply because you think you're a better mother for it. lol

Shout out to my OBGYN, Ioanna Tsoumpou, who provided perfect...

For our second Independence celebration since we've lived here, we decided to beat the crowds and stay home with Arya to check out the aircraft from our rooftop! 🚁🛫

Some made close passes, but as you can tell, I had to get creative and take these pics from my cellphone using a monocular at the end as a zoom lens 🔭 so sorry for the quality and framing 😅 I had to keep up with them in the air while holding the monocular and camera together and in-line with each other 😵‍💫

Guess what's back on our street for the next four months?! Our local laiki, or Farmer's Market, has a ton of fresh produce from around Greece. For someone working remotely (making USD), the fruits and veggies are a steal price-wise and far more seasonal than the supermarket. 🍊🥔🥕

Now, I look up what's being harvested and find recipes that do the current selection justice. Whereas, in the United States of America, I had sooo many imported produce at my fingertips. Meaning, they were much older and costly! That's going to get so much worse as Trump puts terriffs on neighboring countries. 🤦‍♀️

Not to make any of our U.S. friends jealous, buuut we can get a dozen eggs here for €3-4. Reconsidering your grand idea to move abroad yet?

When Nick and I first moved, I was under the impression that supermarkets did not exist here in Greece. This massive Sklavenitis in Athens was the first store that made me feel like I was back in the states in terms of shopping, being able to get everything in one place. I even found some frozen meals which aren't super popular here... People cook here, imagine that.

Anyway, I was over the moon to experience this huge store and have been a handful of times since we learned about it. Next on our list is to check out the big AB in Pefkakia! Any other recommendations? I'll take what I can get since supermarkets are the norm back home (well, what used to be). Sound on for ASMR version 🛒

Side note: I love how supportive Greeks are of breastfeeding! I have felt so comfortable feeding my baby here; whereas, I don't think I would in the U.S. It's still considered taboo for some reason.

Yesterday's rain went from a light sprinkle to a torrential downpore in a matter of minutes. Glad we got home safely, but certainly not dry! 😅

Nick and I didn't bring her car seat, so we couldn't take a cab home with Arya. Now we know! Don't run errands when the weather report says severe rainstorms... If you do, bring two umbrellas. 👍

Breastfeeding has been a journey. It started off extremely painful and got better after about a month and a half... although, the positions I spend most of my time in make my whole body ache. Ended up getting a milk bleb, which is super weird and stings as she feeds. Now I'm okay but still not loving it, although I do enjoy the connection we share because of it. Plus, I know this is what's best for her so I feel good about continuing. I plan on breastfeeding for a year, including pumping 1-2 times per day (morning and night), so wish me luck! 🤞
