I’m a firm believer in timing. There are bands I love, been seeing for years, but depending on what is happening in the world…they hit a little differently. @luna_nyc lit up Times Square the other night. I’d never heard Tugboat rock so much. The setlist was bewitched. A great time had by all.

On 9/11 after being kicked out of my office at Hadassah headquarters on 58th St between 5th and 6th Avenues, I bought a throw-away camera. Unable to leave the city -all transportation was shut down, all bridges and tunnels closed- Megan and I walked to Greg’s office on Spring Street off of Lafayette. The streets were chaotic, military deployed, tanks in the street, couples kissing, people meandering or running, we were the only people walking downtown. The first 2 shots were taken as we walked down Lafayette closer to Greg, closer to the fallen, burning towers. The smoke clouds are ever present. The 3rd photo is on the roof of Greg’s office building. We smiled as Greg took the shot coz what else do you do when you have your photo taken. The overwhelmingness of the day. The devastation of what was happening as we stood on that roof. No one knows how to process that, so we smiled because we didn’t know what else to do. It still makes me nauseous looking at that photo. The last photo is about a month and a half later while in Tribeca at the Knitting Factory to see The Fall. I climbed up on the fencing to get the shot (with my real camera). You can see the cop in the lower right coming to tell me to get down.
25 years later and it still hits hard. And I’m one of the lucky ones.
