Ollie’s Training Update 2

Today I’m teaching Ollie the down-stay command for the very first time, starting with something as simple as walking circles around him without him getting up.

The down-stay command is pretty simple. It means stay until I come back and release the pup.

This translates to everyday life at home, whether his family is eating dinner, working, or just relaxing. Ollie will learn to stay in one spot without getting up.

As you’ll see, Ollie struggles a bit in the beginning, but by the end of the video he gets it right 3 times in a row!

This is what I call the ugly middle of dog training. Dogs are learning something new, they’re going to make mistakes, and that’s completely normal. My job is to help them understand what I’m asking, work through those mistakes, and reward them with praise when they get it right.

This is just the beginning for Ollie. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be building on this until he can reliably hold his down-stay around other people, dogs, and everyday distractions.

By the time we’re finished, the goal is for Ollie to be able to relax and stay on his bed while his family eats dinner, works, or goes about their day without having to constantly worry about him destroying the house ( like before training )

Day 1 with Ollie the mini mini bernadoodle

I’ve got this little naughty pup for 4 weeks of board and training, and the goal is simple — turn him into the best trained dog in the neighborhood.

I’ll be posting updates throughout his training so you can follow his progress along the way, and at the end I’ll put together a full video showing his transformation from start to finish.

Follow along and watch Ollie’s transformation from day 1 until day 28.

More to come (soon)

If anyone has any questions regarding @chadtoughdefeatdipg or Team Owen, the charity that the shirt & hoodie sales will be benefiting, I encourage you to click on the YouTube Video above to learn more about their start and their ties to the @umichfootball University of Michigan @eddiebarstool @stoolpresidente , or just go ahead and Google ChadTough or Team Owen and read those stories. Read the stories of the strength and courage of not only the kids dealing with this horrible disease, but also read and learn about the stories of the parents and families affected by this, how they stand strong together to get through it.

The response on the shirts and hoodies has already been great, thank you so much. Please keep sharing and please keep ordering, the more we can order the more we can donate to keep fighting and keep acknowledging this disease that is affecting kids everywhere. Please, just call, text, or DM me to keep the orders and the fight going.

I am beyond filled with pride, joy and love after the #OwenTough2024 block party! Sure, we had to take it indoors, but that didn't stop a thing! We raised over $100k for pediatric brain cancer research! I'm so proud of what this event has turned into and cannot thank all the volunteers enough! I know Owen enjoyed every single second! Thank you for our runners from far and wide - we had Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, New England, California, Texas, New Zealand and London, along many other locations. THANK YOU!
