THELMA & LOUISE. BEYOND.

Honestly one of the most creative, exciting and completely thrilling things I’ve seen in a theatre in such a long time.

It gave me the same feeling I had seeing Spring Awakening in previews on Broadway when I was 19. That feeling when you’re sitting there thinking… fuck, this is special.

Callie Khouri’s book. Neko Case’s music and lyrics. THAT SCORE. Trip Cullman’s direction. Bobbi Jene Smith & Or Schraiber’s choreography. Christine Jones & Brett J. Banakis’ scenography. Ryan Dawson Laight’s costumes. Natasha Chivers’ lighting. Gareth Owen’s sound.

PERFECT.

@amyflorencelennox and @racheltucker01 are sensational and what a company around them: Samuel Edwards, @jordanlukegage , Alex Gibson-Giorgio, Letitia Hector, Tamlyn Henderson, @astonishingtrev, Jack Butterworth, Rushand Chambers, Joshua Dever, Kamilla Fernandes, Alex Given, Suzie McAdam and Eleanor Walsh.

And huge credit to Kimberly Grigsby, John Clancy, Ed Bussey, Carl Newman, Paul Rigby and Zoe Sarnak for the extraordinary musical world of the show.

I bloody loved it.

At this point, if this show asked me to drive off a cliff with it, apparently I’m getting in the car.

This deserves a HUGE life.

And @sfpofficial once again shows that extraordinary ability she has to create work that captures that magic feeling we’re all looking for when we sit down in a theatre. That feeling of knowing you’ve just seen something special. 🛞🔫💄

I saw it earlier this summer, but #CARE by #AlexanderZeldin @youngvictheatre has stayed with me. The show was fascinating and very moving. Terrific performances by #LindaBassett , Hayley Carmichael, Richard Durden, Aoife Gaston, and Llewella Gideon. Some really lovely writing and beautiful direction. The lighting by @jafarncombe was magnificent. I lost my father in December so, yeah, I was living a lot of this recently. All the memories hit me. It needs to be put before people and this did so with dignity and grace. Thank you for producing it @sbrooks511 and @nadia.s.fall I was very glad to have experienced it. Truly cathartic theatre. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It was a gift to revisit one of the first plays I wrote — PORCELAIN — with a brilliant cast at the Young Vic.

It was also personally challenging process, as it was a rare opportunity to confront and acknowledge my younger self, and as a then-emerging writer.

Our company includes Paul Clayton, Stephen Fewell, John Hefferman, James Phoon, and Ewan Miller. The stage manager is Catriona McHugh.

A grateful thanks to Theatre Group Asia, bb2, and the Young Vic for making this workshop a reality. Special thanks to Clint Ramos, Jeremy O. Harris, Sean Brooks, Nadia Fall, Zachary Hausman, and Sandro Lorenzo for your passion and support for this play and workshop.

PORCELAIN is an examination of a young man’s crime of passion. Triply scorned — as an Asian, a homosexual, and now a murderer — 19-year-old John Lee has confessed to shooting his lover in a public lavatory in London. A winner of the London Fringe Award for Best Play and nominated for L.A Weekly’s Best Playwriting Award, PORCELAIN dissects the crime through a prism of conflicting voices: newscasts, flashbacks, and John’s own recollections to a prison psychologist.

AD of WA Kieton here. Just a quick personal word post-Scratch.

I often get asked, 'How are you feeling? How did it go?' when the event is done, and I never know what to say. I somewhat disconnect a bit when running an event of this scale with little to no resources. It's hard to taste the food if you're scoffing it down.

But. The impact is blatant. Writers getting a shot, feedback being given, bums in seats. People connecting with each other, craft being honed, and the work being taken further.

So even if I couldn't answer your lovely question of how I feel last night - please know that I am enjiyably full. Maybe I don't need to feel ecstatic emotionally to know these events are important? I am grateful to run them, and whether The Scratch stays in its current form or not, I will continue to keep creating opportunities. Hopefully, on a bigger and bigger scale as time goes on.

Thank you to everyone who made the event happen. Onto the next 🏹💜
