I celebrated Dad’s celestial birthday today by obtaining his favorite desert (cheesecake from Veniero’s) and getting friends and tangential friends together to help eat it one forkful at a time with many forks provided.

Dad loved to host parties and get people together. He loved to get friends who didn’t know each other to get to know each other. It’s something I learned from him and love to keep going, since maybe Swank Fest or earlier.

Happy Birthday my Dad, I sure do miss you.

Addenda: As I was making this post, I realized the shirt my Dad is wearing in his cheesecake photos is the same one as one of the shirts I wanted from his closet when he passed, one of only a few I selected. Pretty wild!

Missed our dog-friendly tarot reading event this past Sunday at @luckyonb with @annatoonk ? We’re hoping to host an even bigger, more magical event this fall, so you might get another shot at learning what’s in your cards and hanging with some really lovely people and pooches. We were so excited to see the grads that joined us! Pups originally from our partners in Los Angeles, Puerto Rico, and Tennessee all showed up to represent and mingle. Thank you to the awesome hosting bar and witchy woman in residence! 🔮✨

24 hours, 17 dogs, 6 incredible volunteers, 1 extremely generous donor, and a partridge in a pear tree. Not to mention the many of you who very thoughtfully donated on Giving Tuesday, which made this morning’s intake possible! THANK YOU ALL for saving these pups!! 💛

What a whirlwind! Thanks to the incredible people behind @pilotstotherescue, we’ve established a new relationship with an SC partner that we’re excited to work with — the first three pups from those hard working animal lovers arrived last night via plane, and they couldn’t have been friendlier or happier. Steve, the blocky faced black scruffy boy, is close to a year old but is low and stocky and looks like a forever puppy. 10/10 demeanor. Less than 12 hours later, 19 dogs arrived at 6am via our Tennessee partner. While each one was endearing and lovely, it was a tough unload because it was pitch black out with no street lights and a bunch of them had come from a hoarding case and were fearful and reluctant to leave their kennels. All were amazingly gentle and trusting though. One discombobulated little lady pooped in two of our laps on the ride back to our office — we’ll keep her identity anonymous for now so her integrity remains intact. :) Thank you to all of our generous partners, foster parents, and volunteers for making these missions possible! ❤️

Welcomed in a diverse group of doggos this morning — including a hairless breed, the number one volunteer favorite! Olive, the yellow lab with a sugary demeanor, was a close second. Huge thanks to our devoted crew of volunteers and foster parents for making this big intake possible. The new adoptables are starting to settle, and their basic info is on our website.
