On 2 September 1945, a man stopped in the middle of his speech and asked the crowd a simple question.

He was reading Vietnam’s Declaration of Independence before around half a million people in Ba Đình Square, Hanoi.

“All men are created equal. They are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights.”

Then he suddenly stopped, looked at the people, and asked:
“Compatriots — can you hear me?”

Half a million voices answered: yes, we hear you.

This is the land Vietnamese agarwood comes from.

And in its forests, the agarwood tree gives its scent only after it has been wounded.

The same wound. The same story.

Proud of Vietnam. Proud of our people.

This Is Peace
