Stop for a moment. Breathe.

This isn’t smoke. It’s peace, rising slowly.

Natural Vietnamese oud on the ember, on a blessed day.

Peace is something you can hold in your hand.

Before your misbaha reached you, it was a tree wounded in the forests of Vietnam.

And from that wound, oud was born.

Then it was cut piece by piece, and shaped bead by bead.

Today, between every bead, a remembrance.

This Is Peace

Every sense you have waits at a gate. Except one.

Sight, sound and touch are all checked at your thalamus first.

Scent skips the line, straight to emotion and memory.

That’s why one breath of oud can take you back to your grandmother’s house, a Friday morning, the majlis.

Heat oud and it releases benzylacetone, a molecule that calmed mice in lab studies.

Save this, and send it to someone who needs a calm moment today.

Which memory does oud bring back for you?
