Sometimes things fall together so nicely 🌹

While I’ve got some time not working, I’ve been exploring perfume materials and blending more, trying to get to know how things come together (getting to know your materials being one of @sarahmccartneythinks ‘s golden rules 😃).

As many of you know, though, I am not much of a rose fan. The @scenthusiasm_ltd ingredients kit has a rose base and a rose absolute which are great to compare but which I hadn’t used.

The astonishing Victoria @boisdejasmin gave a fascinating seminar on rose last month, partly as a thankyou to some of us who have donated to her fundraiser for the other side of her current work - rescue in Kramatorsk, Ukraine. I vastly love and admire her way of drawing out and building on beauty and joy no matter what - please do check out what she is sharing and help if you can. She shared some formulae for different rose accords - really interesting but I had none of the parts.

In stepped fate in the form of @peoplecareplanetcare Dulcie’s Citizen Subscription #BOX006 which to my great joy was perfume focussed and contained not only gorgeous incense, candle and skin oil but also a fantastic kit of 15 tiny vials of ingredients to make bespoke scented oil-perfume. These included many of the rose accords parts I had heard about on the seminar. So I have mixed Geraniol, Citronellol, Nerol, Damascone Alpha, Cedarwood Chinese and Eucalyptus Peppermint to make a deliciously damp, green, fresh rose with just a hint of sawn wood. I leaned more heavily than is usual into the damascone and cedar as the heart, with the eucalyptus keeping things fresh, cool and a little spiky, and I’m super happy to have had a play with these marvellous molecules and naturals.

✨ Spellkast Updates ✨

1. May was incredibly dynamic, so here are a few highlights from the studio - small and big moments shaping the journey forward.

2. Lilac season in Stockholm was in full bloom and I stopped to smell almost every bush. The subtle differences in each colour - indolic, almost animalic to crisp and anisic - took me back to Sofia, Bulgaria, and that nostalgic feeling of carefree summer approaching.

3. This was also the month I finalised all product safety & compliance for my upcoming perfume launch. A long but essential process - I’m proud, grateful, and excited to share that four fragrances will soon be ready for you to experience.

4-5-6. From the jasmine-scented streets in Bergamo to the orange blossoms in Riva del Garda (only the bees and I stopped to smell them), Italy offered constant sensory inspiration. At @accademia_carrara , the Tarot – Origins, Cards, Fortunes exhibition was a true highlight—especially the 15th-century Colleoni deck. A small hint at the inspiration behind my fragrances… would you like me to share more about tarot?

7. Back in practice, I held a “Scent, Sense and Symbols” session with @_reconstructions ons - where each participant created a scented talisman. Thank you for the trust!

8. Grateful as well to @johan.foreverlost for materialising another botanical idea: Rosa damascena, Bulgarian rose, a reminder of home.

9. I also passed my certification for shipping dangerous goods (perfume included). Complex—but worth it. And yes, sitting next to @sarahmccartneythinks ks made the course much more enjoyable!

10-11. London moments: visiting @4160tuesdays days HQ, catching up with @scenthusiasm_ltd , and paying tribute to Pamela Coleman Smith at @treadwellsbooks

12. Ending the month quietly, enjoying the light and shadow play in the studio in Stockholm. ✨

$For #travelsizetuesday I want to wish this lovely diverse fragrance family #happypridemonth🏳️‍🌈 with a little rainbow of all the travel sizes I have picked up so far this year. I blame @thepopupperfumery , @perfumewalks , @barnesfragrancefair and @scenthusiasm_ltd ‘small surprises’ patreon tier for this extreme glut of loveliness. But how much better it is that these are a size I will actually use, because this amount of full bottles would be more than my shelves or wallet could stand. This is just the 8ml or less - I have also picked up some amazing 10 and 15ml things this year and hooray for all brands able to offer those 😍 Today I am particularly rejoicing in wearing the perfectly cosy and pet-able Black Cat by @diffractive_studio - all the soothing power of a purring void, bottled.
