Jason Kelce invested in a 100-year-old public golf course in the Catskills, and for him, it’s about more than money. “We obviously want to grow and make money, but we also want to do things that have a sense of purpose and meaning." He opens up about it in a new Golf Digest feature by Michael Croley. It’s one of the most thoughtful portraits of Jason since his retirement, covering fame, family, and what he wants to do with his success. The course is Sullivan County Golf Club, a scrappy nine-holer two hours north of New York City that has been open continuously since 1925. The tournament boards in the clubhouse date back to the 1930s. Golf writer Tom Coyne, bestselling author of A Course Called Ireland, led its rescue and brought in Bill Murray, and later Jason, as investors. The course has been redesigned, and the clubhouse, bar, and pro shop have been renovated. The spirit hasn’t changed. There’s no pretense here, and jeans and a sweatshirt are just fine. Jason met Coyne as a guest on The Golfer’s Journal podcast. He was drawn to the rescue story, and he says that relationship is a big reason he invested. It’s also personal. Jason and Travis grew up playing Highland Park, a public course in Cleveland, where their dad dropped them off with secondhand clubs from Play It Again Sports. Jason told Golf Digest that golf can be a rich person’s game, but public courses bring together people from every walk of life. “Whenever you have something that unites people from all different walks of life, that’s kind of where I like to be.” He sees Sullivan County as an investment in people. During the visit, staff and local golfers stopped by to thank him. Photos: Peter Yang for Golf Digest Read “The Passion of Jason Kelce” by Michael Croley in Golf Digest.

Sullivan County Golf Club. 100 years old, 9 greens and 18 tees, a trout stream through the middle, and a plane took off for Denmark from the 8th fairway in 1931. Tom Coyne, Bill Murray and Jason Kelce brought it back to life and nailed it. Read A Course Called Home, then go play it. Proud member for life. Only a couple pics because we got absolutely poured on Ahahah 🌧️ #SullivanCountyGolfClub #ACourseCalledHome #FringeGolf

Sullivan County Golf Club (@scgc1925 ), a Golden Age 9-holer, opened in 1925 in Liberty, New York. Nestled high in the Catskill Mountains, not far from the fields that hosted Woodstock, its old 8th fairway served as the launch point for a transatlantic flight to Denmark back in 1931, serving as inspiration for its new logo. Over the years, the course had fallen on hard times. That’s when superintendent Shaun Smith (@gorsenod ) reached out to golf writer Tom Coyne (@coynewriter ). This led to Coyne taking over and beginning to restore the club. That restoration drew a bigger crowd. In 2025, ahead of the club’s 100th anniversary, the ownership group grew to include actor Bill Murray, NFL legend @jason.kelce , among others, backing a full renovation and reroute of the course led by Colton Craig of SCC Design (@smyerscraigandcoyne ). We first made the trip out in 2023 and have returned annually since to watch the progress. It’s the kind of place you go to loop all day long, then sit around the campfire all night. The rescue made for such a good story that Coyne told it himself in A Course Called Home, released in 2026 and now a New York Times bestseller. It’s a place that’s always stood for affordable, rural, community golf, and here’s hoping there are many more chapters to come for SCGC. #fridayfairways Sullivan County Golf Club · Liberty, NY

A little photo/video dump from my visit home! A little bit of movement, a little bit of adventure, a lot of fresh air, and moments that make you remember what really matters. 🤍🌿🐎🌅🧘‍♀️🛥️ #onewithnature #yogaandhorses #backtomyroots I was in grade school the last time I rode a horse… I would say it’s kind of like riding a bike but I think I was in grade school the last time I rode bike, so I’m not sure it applies. It was soo fun to go on a trail ride with my family & friends! This is the newest member of the family. Meet Styx. He’a not quite ready to ride yet!! But definitely next summer! Forever my baby sis.. running her own business @allthatglittersisold If you are ever in the Catskills, check out her store @allthatglittersisold . She’s got these most incredible vintage tees, vinyls and threads. #shopvintage #sisterlove #vintagefinds I already miss my sister..🥹😍 She’s my ride or die. Pun kind of intended. Given the context .. The most incredible day started with an amazing trail ride with family and friends. My horse was a little on the lazy side. But that’s ok! It’s been a while since I’ve ridden a horse. I would say it’s like riding a bicycle but I cannot remember the last time I rode a bicycle.. 🐴⛰️ White lake delivered the best weather for an evening cruise.. 🚢 Sunset 🌅 on the boat… not to shabby.. Another moment for the Sunset! 🌅 seriously unreal! #whitelake #caskillsny #sunsetcruise I had the pleasure of teaching at a Wellness event on the Greens @scgc1925 .
