A glimpse into the process💙🩵

LOOK 1 - POWER, RECONSTRUCTED⚡️

Since @schabitatfh was founded in 1986, one of our looks had to pull inspiration from the decade. I knew I wanted to play with the 80s power suit ❤️‍🔥… Shoulders, shapes & color blocking. Then rebuild it in my own way.

I started with a repurposed Goodwill blazer and repurposed it using patterned blue tarp panels, hand smocking tarp details & blue accents cut from the Habitat banner. The trousers were constructed from painter’s drop cloth with pleated & heated tarp accents on the sides. All Additional fabric remnants sourced from @scrapatl

This look was originally designed for a male model, but two days before the show, my girl @hey.nita stepped in and made it hers! The power and energy she brought to this suit shifted the entire look 🥹🫶🏿 and I’m soooo grateful for the way she showed up and carried this vision to life 💙

Four Pieces. One Designed. Many stories. @shirtorabydesign / @shirtorajdesigns took the win in the Advanced Designer category at the 40th Annual Constructive Couture Fashion Show & Gala hosted by @schabitatfh and @atlsfw .

Using unconventional materials mostly found in construction, the four pieces wow'd both audiences and judges in their alignment with the story of Richard Brown and Habitat for Humanity's mission, showcasing the creativity, art, and fun that goes into sustainable fashion.

The Women Build 💞 is always one of my favorite events, and I love seeing this incredible group make a difference by expanding access to affordable housing and making homeownership possible for everyone! 🏡🛠️

From the runway to the gala, Constructed Couture celebrated creativity, community, and the power of coming together for a greater purpose. This is my “how it was made” video for my Look #2 - Fence me out

Materials used: plastic construction fencing, 22 zip ties, 3 cans of spray paint and hot glue

Inspiration/meaning: living without limits

Connection to Partner Family/story: moving out of comfort zone into the unknown of being the first one in her family to own a home.
