Having had some time to let our August Heritage week event, 'Outside Our Door: The Hidden History of the Dún Laoghaire Magdalene Laundry' settle, I want to thank the behind the scenes support that helped bring this project to the local community- To the Loughlinstown Over 50s group members especially Pat, Anne, Brian, Pat and Bridie who played a huge part on the day, sharing personal stories, archived material and testimonial. To Eblana Club for hosting us indoors when the rain deterred our garden plans! To Shauna, our production hero, for jumping-in to support and manage the details of our immediately sold-out public event. To Ciara, Ewa, & John for volunteering their time to capture our research and this first ever public event highlighting the institutional past of our locality 🙏✨️💜

We had an amazing time exploring Ireland! Now that the jet lag has worn off, I can finally share our incredible experience at the @maythe4thscififilmfestival We met awesome filmmakers from all over the world (shout out to our new Mancunian friends!) and witnessed different cultural approaches to narrative storytelling. Tagged some of our faves here. Check them out, follow their journey! @imadetheinvisibleman by @cinescopepictures @mollyandtherobotfilm by Táine King @mirror.of.time.film by @schaeferstudios_ ftrng @pollybarrettmusic @peat_film by @paud.iebaggottfilmmaker Tipping Point by @brianmatthewsmurphy & @michaelbenson2020 Between the lineup, gorgeous location at Portmagee Whiskey, stormtrooper patrols, and welcoming nature of the festival hosts and filmmakers, this was one of the coolest festivals we've been to. David and John take a lot of care to organize the event & welcome filmmakers from across the galaxy with activities like a networking night & an awards ceremony with a 3-course dinner! They are doing incredible work to bring tourism to the beautiful village of Portmagee - "Porgmagee" during May the 4th. We already want to go back! "Epic" repeatedly came to mind as we boarded AquaTerra boat tours and sailed to the majestic Skelligs (the fictional setting of Luke Skywalker's Ahch-To!), climbed to the top of the Kerry Cliffs, and drove through the rolling green hills of the Irish countryside. We were charmed by live performances in pubs, our thirst quenched by the best Guinness we've ever tasted, and our hunger sated by fresh fish and chips accentuated by views of the Wild Atlantic Way just outside the windows. We highly recommend this film festival to all sci-fi filmmakers. If you can make the trip to this magical village - GO!!!! It's well worth it! #starwars #Ireland #sci-fi #films #filmfestival
