“Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit….Wisdom is knowing that it doesn’t belong in a fruit salad”

We live in a day and age of connectivity thru social media and the constant bombardment of information. You can go into any comment section of any training/tactical/competition post and find 27 experts vying for their 3 minutes of fame. Everyone knows the right answer. Everyone has watched a podcast and knows how to argue until they’re blue in the face. Everyone knows how to use the same argument their hero used to prove their point. Everyone is fluent in being right.
But few have the wisdom to apply that knowledge in real time, to different situations and shooters and when not to. Knowing the right answer isn’t enough when you don’t know why it’s the right answer or who it applies to and when. Good instructors must not only be aware of the right answer thru exploration of knowledge but also possess the wisdom of when to use it and how to talk about it and explain it. This doesn’t happen overnight and usually comes thru some level of pain of doing it incorrectly over time. This is another reason why even as an instructor, you’re never done learning. Things change, and if it’s changing outside of your purview, it’s leaving you behind and your relevancy has already begun to diminish. As @tapracktactical says “until I could can hit a 1” square at 100 yds in under a sec, I’m not done getting better”. A surplus of skill will never hurt you and it’ll benefit more folks than just you when you can use it. If you really want to be the change you want to see within the dept, nothing spurs that change like being so good at your job that others feel inferior when you walk into the room. The simple act of your presence creates dissent because the serial underperformers become aware of where they exist on the food chain. You can grab change by the horns or it can grab you by the throat. Stay hungry. Stay working. Keep building better humans.

Training Tuesday:
“The best thing for being sad,” replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, “is to learn something. That’s the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.”
