Sheeesh… what a week! It all started with an 18 hour layover in California where @dukeaipa took me to compete in the @solentosurffestival, only to bail early for a Smashing Pumpkins and Green Day concert 🤣 It was my first time seeing a concert from a box seat, and the music and food was unreal!!! I had to dip a little early in order to make it to LAX in time for my red eye flight to OBX for the @surfalorus film festival, for the east coast premiere of “Free-Lance”. Thank you so much to everyone who came out and watched, it meant the world to me! Just seeing kids and adults alike getting stoked on surfing is what it’s all about. Mahalo to Duke, the surfalorus crew, and all the new friends I made during the last few days. Now it’s time for a nap… After my next 12 hours of travel home!!! Hahah 😵‍💫🕺🏽😴❤️🤙

The “Shaping Surf History” from Rizzoli book signing event and slide show with Jamie Brisick, and myself, hosted by none other than Trace and Chad Marshall held at the almost ready new and approved Brothers Marshall Malibu Surf Shop/Community Center located off of PCH went off on a beautiful Friday evening recently.

Atmospherically perfect with full spectrum mood lighting, good sounds, great drinks, and surrounded by “SHREDADELIC”, the colorful and super cool works by Thomas Lynch Ill, the event was not only meant to sell a few books, meet new and old friends alike, but more importantly to celebrate our cherished friend, the Prince of Malibu, the late Willy Morris.

Among special guests who were attendance were many of Willy’s family and close friends Jennifer, Charlie, Alex (@a19morris there in spirit) and Steve Morris and wife Shannan.

One of the high notes for me was the amount of young talented photographers and fellow “Brookies” that showed for the event, and willing to discuss analog/film photographer over digital. Considering the entire book was shot on film some 40 years ago, it was wonderful and unexpected.

When I asked why film, “It’s so much more difficult to shoot.” The best answer that I received was, “ It’s the difficult part that I like!” Can’t argue with that. @napalmnat

Another great event had by all. Beautiful time and cherished. Thank you to all.

When Bob and Connie White had a party to celebrate their birthdays together 1961, they had no idea that they would be found in what might be the longest running house party in Los Angeles, still going 62 years later!
