On April 16, 2026, artist Kerstin Honeit joined us at BERLIN ART INSTITUTE for her lecture THE PERSONAL IS POLITICAL – translating personal experiences into resistant and political aesthetics.

The lecture reflected on how personal experiences, bodies, and backgrounds are inseparably connected to a complex political world – and how these experiences can be translated into empowering artistic forms.

Drawing on recent works dealing with poverty and queerness, Honeit shared insights into her practice with experimental documentary moving image formats, the politics of the voice, and queer modes of translation between image, language, and gaze.

The lecture was followed by a discussion of works by participants of the Studio Program Art Residency at BAI.

Many thanks to Kerstin Honeit for this generous exchange.

Many thanks to artist, writer, and activist Ren Mauney for the workshop CREATIVE STRATEGIES: Participatory Performance and the Aesthetics of Citizenship, held on April 08–09, 2026, within the Studio Program Art Residency at BAI.

Over two days, participants explored participatory performance methods through lecture, movement, group exercises, and collaborative proposals. The workshop used the group as a laboratory for interactive and embodied art-making, engaging with questions of democracy, citizenship, spectatorship, and public bodies.

Ren Mauney is a performance artist, writer, and activist based between Berlin and London. Her work brings political performance into spaces where it does not usually exist and engages publics beyond the contexts of art and academia.

Nelly Corsten completed her Studio Program Art Residency at BERLIN ART INSTITUTE from March 30 – April 24, 2026.

Born in Strasbourg, France, Nelly is a media artist working across installation, film, performance, body, space, and material. During her residency, she began developing a new body of work around SCOBY — a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast — as a living artistic material.

Nelly’s participation was supported by BAI Studios GmbH to promote our non-profit organization BAI Social gUG and support sustainable, long-term funding partnerships.
