Members of the IOM Nigeria Youth Advisory Board on Migration (YABM) are in Lagos for a three-day training on Safe and Regular Migration Pathways, Digital Literacy, and Migration Advocacy.

As young people, migration is a conversation we cannot afford to approach with assumptions, misinformation, or the pressure to simply “japa.” We need the right information to understand our options, identify safe and regular pathways, recognise red flags, and make informed decisions about our journeys.

This training is equipping us with the knowledge and practical tools to become stronger Migration Ambassadors and to take these conversations beyond the training room and into our communities.

Because migration is a personal decision, but how we migrate matters.

Don’t just move. Move Smart. Move Safe. Move Informed. 🌍💙

I travelled and was outside a lot this month.

Resumed Paediatrics finally. I wish interns were allowed to wear colourful scrubs here. My babies are scared of our white uniforms. 😩

April Reflection with Youth Advisory Board on Migration – @iomnigeria

I had the privilege of participating in a two-day community outreach at the Wassa and Durumi IDP Camps as part of the Youth Advisory Board on Migration with - @unmigration Nigeria.

The experience was a powerful reminder that access to accurate information can shape decisions, protect lives, and create hope.

Across both communities, we engaged directly with community members on safe and regular migration, the risks of misinformation, and the realities many people face when migration becomes a survival strategy rather than simply a choice.

On the second day at Durumi IDP Camp, our conversations focused on human trafficking, protection, and prevention. We discussed the warning signs of trafficking, safe migration pathways, and practical ways individuals and families can protect themselves from exploitation. What stood out most was the willingness of participants to ask questions, share their experiences, and connect the discussions to the realities they face every day.

This experience also aligns closely with the work we champion through @ominyainitiatives, where we promote peacebuilding, human security, youth empowerment, and community resilience through advocacy, civic engagement, and grassroots education.

Experiences like these continue to strengthen my commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind in conversations about migration, protection, and human dignity.

Because information saves lives, and informed communities build safer futures.

I was honoured to participate in the @iomnigeria Nigeria COMPASS 5th Anniversary Commemorative Event.

It was a privilege to contribute to the panel discussion on the critical role of youth and communities in shaping safer migration systems. I emphasized that young people must be seen not only as beneficiaries but as active partners in designing solutions, influencing policies, and driving sustainable change.

As a member of the @iomnigeria Nigeria Youth Advisory Board on Migration and Executive Director of @ominyainitiatives Initiative, I remain committed to promoting informed migration, amplifying youth voices, and strengthening community-led approaches to peace, inclusion, and sustainable development.

My appreciation goes to @unmigration Nigeria, the COMPASS Programme, and the Netherlands in Nigeria for creating this important platform for dialogue, collaboration, and collective action.

The conversations we had reaffirmed that safe migration is built on strong partnerships, responsive institutions, and meaningful youth engagement.
