Black Queer Peripheries: Black Fruit meets Poeler Luft Film Screening & Panel Discussion 📅 Thu, 08.10.2026 | 🕖 7:15 PM 📍 ZfL Berlin, Pariser Str. 1 Black Queer Peripheries – Black Fruit Meets Poeler Luft brings together two recent works of Afropean cinema: an episode from Lamin Leroy Gibba’s series Black Fruit (2024) and Massiamy Diaby’s short film Poeler Luft (2024). Both works trace how Black queer life in Germany moves between the center and the periphery, between being in focus and being out of frame. We explore what is lost or gained when cinematic form itself becomes the site where this condition is made visible. After the screening, we will be joined by series creator and writer Lamin Leroy Gibba (@laminleroy) and film director Massiamy Diaby (@massiamy_diaby) to discuss the making of their works, the choices behind form and framing, and their creative positions. This event is part of the ERC-funded project Black Narratives of Transcultural Appropriation: Constructing Afropean Worlds, Questioning European Foundations. #blackqueercinema #afropea #blackgaze

Black History Month: Cinemas of Liberation & Desire continues with Schwarze Früchte – The Final Two Episodes Together with The Initiative of Black People in Germany (ISD), on Sunday 22. February we warmly invite you to a screening of the final two episodes of the series Schwarze Früchte. After the screening there will be a conversation with Lamin Leroy Gibba and David Ụzọchukwu, moderated by Thelma Buabeng. “Schwarze Früchte tells the story of Lalo: Black, queer, mid-twenties—and caught in a moment of stumbling. After the unexpected death of his father, everything becomes unsteady. The series portrays Black queer life in all its contradictions, vulnerability, and strength—beyond stereotypes and close to the reality of many of us. Together we will watch the final two episodes and then enter into a conversation: about grief and desire, about self-preservation and self-abandonment, about Black storytelling within the German film and series landscape—and about what it means to write our own stories and make them visible.” This evening is intended as a shared space: for watching, reflecting, sharing, questioning, and exchanging. Black perspectives are centered, and community voices are explicitly welcome.”–ISD
