The first dinosaur eggs known to science were found here, at the Flaming Cliffs in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert. In August 2027, you can stand there with a palaeontologist who has dug for dinosaurs in the Gobi.⁠

Travel with palaeontologist and archaeologist Sally Hurst @foundafossil on a 12-day journey through some of the richest fossil country on Earth. You’ll explore the Flaming Cliffs, the Nemegt Basin and remote Khermen Tsav, and see how a palaeontologist reads the land, from ancient forests turned to stone to the “Fighting Dinosaurs” site.⁠

We were delighted to host the Q3 meeting of the Science Diplomats Club at the Embassy of Mexico in Australia, with the participation of Science & Technology Australia (#STA) and the Australian Chapter of the Global Network of Mexicans Abroad (RGMX).

The meeting brought together Mexican scientists based in Australia and Australian researchers collaborating with Mexican institutions to exchange perspectives on Impact, Expectations and Challenges of AI: A review from Mexican and Australian Researchers’ contributions and their Bilateral collaborations.

Our heartfelt appreciation to Dr Jorge Gálvez Vallejo from #ANU for his presentation on supercomputing; Dr Gustavo Fimbres from #UniversityOfSydney for sharing his research on circular economy; Prof Robert Heinsohn from ANU for his dedication and innovative approaches to conservation of endangered species in collaboration with #UNAM; Dr Ana Casas Ramos from ANU for her investigations on critical minerals, and Dr Eduardo Benitez Sandoval from #UNSW for sharing his expertise on robotics and its human interactions. Their contributions underscored the value of strengthening scientific links between Mexico and Australia and fostering collaboration in these fields and adding our voice to the debate on emerging tools such as AI. 🇲🇽🇦🇺🤖

Three generations of whale scientists.

I look at this photo and smile. I’m so incredibly proud of Gamay Rangers April and Indi. They truly are the next generation of female First Nation Rangers with absolutely exciting futures ahead of them.

Last week, we gave a very special school talk to future whale scientist Lanaia and her class.

The questions we got were fabulous. “Do you use AI in your research?” And “do you get sea sick?” Yes to all!

Thank you to the beautiful community of Erskineville Public school.

Next gen, amazing things happen when others lift you up. Be kind and open to opportunities.

This week was a big one for someone who is meant to be on parental leave! 🤣
(1) Monday was spent in Brisbane with the @science_aus team for cultural capability training, a wonderfully thought-provoking workshop, followed by networking for some much-needed conversations with actual adults (vs. a 3-month old!)

(2) I had the pleasure of speaking on a women’s rights panel for @unimelbamnesty @wiseunimelb, alongside my superstar colleagues @transgamerprof and Angeline.

I’ve also been spending a night a week upskilling with the @justgovernance team as part of their engaging Discover Governance program.

A big shout out to my incredible husband who supports my many endeavours and truly pulls more than his weight with Rory - I couldn’t do this without you 🩷✨

This is what came to mind when thinking about how to explain the bluebottles on the mouth of this sunfish.

Part of the Sydney Offshore Megafauna Surveys (SOMS). A partnership with the @mprg_mq at @macquarieuni, the @gamayrangers and @wildsydneyharbour.

Our trusty seahorse to get us there was @lovesydneywhales - @barefootcharter Charters with Captain @barefootcaptain.

Helping Australia learn more about its unknown blue backyard- the more we know, the more we can protect!

Why baked beans on my face? All in the name of education. Do it for the kids!

DO NOT TOUCH bluebottles!

HOW do you simplify the complex in your stakeholder engagement? I use hands-on, in-person engagement to help make the complex simple and the simple compelling.

Through my strategic visual facilitation I listen, synthesise and translate information and discussions to help people move from complexity to clarity and from discussion to action, ensuring all voices are heard.

My work extends beyond communication products to facilitate strategic planning, stakeholder forums and complex projects - working across a diverse range of sectors from business, industry, community groups, First Nations, health, education, environment, science, government and not for profit sectors.

So how does it all happen? Visual facilitation is more than drawing, it is a strategic communication tool for sense-making that helps translate complex information and perspectives into clear stories. The drawing is just the medium used to capture and convey the information.

I do this by ‘drawing upon’ my 20+ years of strategic planning, stakeholder engagement and program coordination experience, combined with my scientific and active listening skills, to draw out information and discussions helping people connect to the big picture, literally!

Conversations, coordination, creativity and collaboration are at the heART of my work. So if you are looking for an enthusiastic communicator who has a passion for coordination and really listens to your stakeholders, I’m looking for my next career adventure.
