from “ransom” to fortnite. crazy to see man

over the past few years, tecca’s gained a bit of a reputation for coming around every single time the weather gets warmer to deliver a song of the summer candidate, and for the past few summers, he’s done just that, with “owa owa” and “dark thoughts” off of his most recent album “dopamine” to “500lbs” and “number 2” on “tec” and “plan a,” his two previous albums, respectively

tecca is one of those artists that i feel is a bit underrated by today’s scene still, because he tends to fit outside the mold of what we see as the common “underground” scene, and perhaps it’s due to his sound being suppperrrr accessible by a mainstream audience, but also because he didn’t necessarily blow up during the post-2020 “underground” era we typically associate with the likes of yeat, ken carson, destroy lonely, sofaygo and more

speaking of those names however, tecca’s actually maintained his relevancy within the scene in large part due to his ties to those artists and some artists outside of them as well, if you ask me. most folks know about the connection he has to internet money, from producers such as rio leyva and nick mira and more, who’ve architected some of his biggest hits, but his connections to rappers in the underground space go deeper than you’d think

for starters, we’ve seen tec and ken carson become a bit of a duo throughout the years at this point, with their most recent song “tic tac toe” coming off of “dopamine,” but they also have collaborations beyond that in both “fell in love” and “she want some more”

tecca also produced sofaygo’s “knock knock” and had ties to artists like babysantana and slump6s back in the day when they were coming up. y’all might remember tecca used to do a bunch of hilarious IG lives as well lol

it’s crazy to have witnessed the evolution of tec over the years and to see him now in fortnite. do y’all think tecca exemplifies what it means to hold longevity over time in modern rap? what’s your favorite song by him? lmk below, love y’all
