12 years ago, I discovered BiggerPockets. I had no idea how much that discovery would shape my real estate journey.

Back then, I was a banker with an interest in investing, but I didn’t have the money or the knowledge to get started.

I remember listening to Brandon Turner share his story and thinking, “That’s me. I can relate to this.”

I went back, listened again, took notes, and started putting what I learned into practice.

Over the years, BiggerPockets became my real estate university. I’ve learned, made mistakes, refined my strategies, and continued building my rental portfolio.

And this year, I attended my very first BPCON. 🥹

Getting to meet and learn from people whose stories, books, and philosophies have influenced my journey was such a full-circle moment.

To Brandon Turner, the BiggerPockets team, and all the investors who generously share their experiences: thank you. You may never know how many lives you’ve impacted.

And to anyone who’s still learning and wondering whether they can do this: keep learning, but don’t forget to take action.

Another #BPCON in the books! 👏

Every year I’m reminded why I keep coming back. It’s a party, yes - one of my highlights this year was playing flip cup in the middle of the after party. But it’s also so much fun to catch up with friends I’ve known for years, and then also meet someone new who ends up changing how I think about my next deal.

That’s the part people underestimate. Real estate is a people business first. The numbers matter, but the relationships are what get deals done. I watched it happen all weekend: introductions turning into partnerships, hallway conversations turning into real opportunities. 🤑

Wow. What an experience. ❤️

My first BPCON is officially in the books, and I’m heading home with a full heart, a full camera roll 😂, and so much to think about.

Three days of learning, conversations, new connections, old connections becoming real-life ones, and meeting people I’ve learned from and admired for years.

But one of my favorite parts was simply meeting so many investors at different stages, doing real estate in completely different ways, and hearing their stories.

Live like no one else so later you can live like no one else. It’s so true.

I’m on a mission to achieve financial independence and frugality is a huge element of that. However, I don’t plan to be this way forever. That’s why I spend less that $40,000/year today but I am planning for over $200,000/year in the future.

There was a point where the side hustle was still just a side hustle.

Nights, lunch-break and weekends, squeezed in around a full time job.

Then, it became a side hustle… with full-time hours… 😅

And, eventually, it started pulling its own weight.

The scary part wasn’t the work, it was figuring out when it was actually ready to become the main thing. 😅

That’s where the planning came in. (& A LOT of positive self talk lol)

Every dollar in, every dollar out, tracked for months & years (maybe a little too long lol) before any decision got made.

It was all based on numbers, not guesses.

(And I’m not a math person, guys. I just know how to add and subtract… That’s all ya really need, I promise 😂)

That’s what turned what could look like a big leap into a plan.

Got into the whole story on a podcast.

The build up, house-hacking, planning the transition, and how tracking expenses became the safety net underneath it all.

I’m so painfully ordinary, guys.

I think being frugal vs cheap is about whether you’re inconveniencing others. And, if whether your savings really makes an impact. In my case, living in a cheap apartment and driving an older used car, doesn’t bother anybody but it really does move the needle.
